The Hovawart Club of North America (HCNA) is hosting a Hovawart Breed Show Saturday, October 11th and Sunday, October 12th on Sauvie Island. The conformation show begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Temperament testing begins at 9 a.m. on Sunday. Visitors are welcome to attend both days at no cost. Come join us and meet some of these rare beauties in person!
The hovawart is a very old working breed of German origin. It almost became extinct during World Wars I and II and is very rare in North America. The name Hovawart actually means "guardian of the estate". The hovawart is a very noble dog, bred to guard his master's family and property and must be smart, loyal and strong. A Hovawart is all these and more. Hovawarts are very beautiful, strong dogs that come in 3 colors: Black and Tan, Solid Black and solid Blonde, all 3 colors can be found in the same liter.
