Avoid the Sheraton Harbor Island in San Diego

We booked our stay with our dog well in advance of our trip. When we arrived, it took nearly 20 minutes for someone to tell us that "oh, we have TWO locations on the island!". So, we go to the second location down the road....another 20 minutes to be told there were no carts available for our luggage. Meanwhile, Fido and I are still waiting in the car. The front desk tells us she is putting us on the ground floor because we have sliding doors to the outside and it will make it easier to walk the dog. GREAT! We get to our room and it's more of a basement room! Most of the doors on this floor are for storage or laundry or housekeeping. Forget the sliding doors; it's a window. Granted, a large window but even the window doesn't open. To walk the dog, we go down the hall to an EXIT door and the ground is covered with ivy....nowhere to walk the dog is specified or provided. We go to come back in and we're locked out! The door says it's open until 6PM and then, you have to use key access but the door is not open. We're stuck outside until an employee comes out for a smoke break and lets us back in, informing us that this is the employee's only door. Now, that means, we have to take the elevator up to the second floor, walk through the lobby and through the entrance with a dog who is now totally frightened to death by noises, the elevator, the cars in front, etc. Our only alternative is for BOTH of us to walk the dog through the Employee's entrance. One stays inside to be able to let the walker and the dog back inside. Most inconvenient!

Another issue people might want to consider....no ice or vending machines. No frig in the room - no way to keep your dog food chilled.

And then, there are the prices! If you want a little bag of chocolate covered almonds - $10! A Coke - $4.25. A berry and yogurt parfait? $9.00.

So they offer very little and charge a lot for everything AND most importantly, they provide no service. When we talked to the front desk about our room, they said there was nothing they could do about the location, the lack of a door to the outside or the sliding doors they'd promised us.

Will NOT be back!
