Road Trip and Groceries

I'm going on a road trip down the Oregon Coast to California, then back up through Crater Lake and the Columbia River Gorge area. It will be me and my small Schnauzer. I'll be tenting along the way and will need to stop a few times for groceries. This trip is the end of July. Any suggestions what to do with her when I need to grab groceries? It could be too hot to leave her in the car. Could I leave the car running and lock the doors with a second set of keys?

Leaving the car running and locking it with a second set of keys is a great option in this situation. I would also recommend that you leave a note on the car with a phone number, so no one tries to "rescue" the dog.
