The area commonly known as Oakvale which surrounds borders the TTC Greenwood subway yards to the north and west is not now nor has it ever been an off leash area for dogs. Signs are clearly posted indicating that dogs must be kept on leash at all times. Due to inadequate enforcement numerous dog owners and commercial dog walkers have been treating the area as a convenient and risk free place to let their dogs run free. Due to the hazard and buisance posed by numerous dogs running free in an area not suited to the purpose, TTC security, Bylaw enforcement and municipal licensing are now enforcing the rule. Individual owners now risk fines and commercial dog walkers risk loosing their license if they do not keep their animals on leash. Nearby Monarch and Greenwood parks both have legal off leash areas.
