Dog friendly exterior window
Taqueria San MiguelWalk up window then take it to the patio or to go. Tasty. Reasonably priced. No website but door dash recognizes them.
Hot
Laguna Lake Dog Off-Leash ParkNot fully fenced. Grass is mostly now weeds. Some shade. Water. Benches. Restrooms. Trails. Parking. Free.
Rude staff
Albee Creek CampgroundCalled to make reservation, staff was exceptionally rude. Basically told me to go elsewhere. Albee Creek Campground is second growth redwood, in black bear country located 5 miles west of the Avenue of the Giants on Mattole Road, in the western portion of Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Open mid-May through mid-October, this 40 site family campground adjoins Rockefeller Forest and offers beautiful scenery, wildlife, and an incredible night sky. Campsites have shade, partial shade, or full sun in the open meadow. Albee Creek is very popular, and the campground is often full in the summer season. Reservations are recommended.
Needs upgrades
Humboldt Redwoods State Park CampgroundHidden Springs Campground - two stars. Mosquitoes here. The overall campground is hilly, but there are somewhat flat spots on each site. Sites are still pretty small, some would only fit one tent. Each site can fit one car on a paved parking spot. Hidden Springs is a pretty campground, but NOT old growth (appears to have been forested). I much preferred the old trees at Burlington. Hidden Springs is much more private than Burlington. I would guess Hidden Springs is older. There are 155 sites at Hidden Springs; however, dozens were closed for maintenance (tree trimming, soil erosion, pavement erosion, wood railings broken).
In fact, an entire loop was closed for repair. Also, checked in only to find out all the showers were out of service at Hidden Springs. The employee told me they had a power outage. Power came on, hot water in sinks, but still no showers. Another camper told me the shower issue was actually that the quarter machines were full. It's really unacceptable to take walk-in campers and not tell them there are no showers. This camper said this is not he first time she has encountered this situation. It's also not acceptable to have no showers in the entire campground simply due to quarters needing to be emptied. Would like to see this campground renovated.
Old growth beauty
Burlington CampgroundBurlington is a beautiful old growth campground situated in redwoods. Smaller campground than its sister property Hidden Springs down the road. The Burlington sites were all pretty flat (unlike Hidden Springs). At Burlington, some sites have superb huge redwoods on it. Only vans or small RVs will fit. Novices next to me put their tent about two feet from the bear box on their site; walked across my site about two feet from my tent to get to the water spigot while talking loudly circa past 8 pm, and rinsed their toothbrushes and food dishes at the spigot (mint toothpaste and food remnants attracts bears).
Site 6 was probably the worst site being that it was oddly situated with trash bins, community water spigot, placement of the fire pit (complete with burnt food remnants from last guests - this is also a bear hazard), and parking. Your tent should be at least ten feet from each and all of these food sources, but on site 6 it's basically impossible. All other sites seemed fine. There is also one ADA site with a paved area.
Shower rooms were not perfect, but I have seen worse. Showers cost quarters. First two minutes was cold water replaced by room temp water and back to cold water when someone flushes. Odd because the sink right there had scalding water. Needless to say shower hot water system could use an upgrade and it would save water. Quarters for showers are available at check-in booth/office (when they're open).
Dogs are not allowed on trails, but are allowed in campground so this gave us a way to see a couple big redwood trees. Highly recommended.
No dogs on trails
Avenue of the GiantsStunning old growth redwoods. The downside is dogs are only okay on grounds at visitor center picnic area and campgrounds only (not on trails). That is, dogs can't get out on auto tour stop trails. Also, ranger told me not to let the dogs in or drink the river water due to serious concentrations of highly toxic blue green algae (dogs will get sick and possibly die within four minutes to four days). Besides the visitor center, a great picnic spot / restroom stop was the California Women's Federation grove day use area. Also see the free Chimney Tree, free Eternal Tree, and free Immortal Tree stops on private property along the Avenue of Giants.
There are two in Eureka
Eureka Dog ParkThere are two dog parks in Eureka. This one is known as Del Norte Street DP. It is a single fenced area, over an acre, along the bay with an obvious walking path (portion is paved and a portion is packed dirt). A few benches. A slice of shade. Water and restrooms just outside near where you park. Good stop.
No dogs on trails
Humboldt Redwoods State ParkDogs okay on grounds at visitor center and campground only (not on trails). That is, dogs can't get out on auto tour stops.
Pricey but support local small businesses
Shrine Drive Thru TreeThis is a private roadside attraction. They run a small 'park' with a couple treehouses made out of redwoods, a drive thru tree, picnic benches, and a gift shop (no food). The man was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the greater area (about a five hour radius). Please help keep them going. $4/pp walk in or $15/car. They claim they are the largest/ tallest drive thru tree (in case you don't fit at the others).
Well done
Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOAIt was foggy and windy (winds die at night), which is normal for the area. Some sites were wet and some were bone dry. This property is well done. There is a huge dog park - maybe a half acre or more. Also, there is an outdoor communal kitchen. At least 50% of campers were tents. Could use a few more showers. There are three shower buildings plus two outdoor showers. Overall very well done. They are a franchise, but locally owned. The PCH towns are a series of small communities, please support them! Open year round.
5 stars for (some) grass
Frank Grasse Dog ParkTwo separate fenced areas by dog size. Small dog area is a little small, but ok. Large dog area is a funky shape (you don't realize at first how far back it goes due to the shape). The fenced areas do not touch (there is a ditch and shrubs between them). Both sides have grass. Water. Limited shade. Free parking. Pleased to have a place to stop, especially with grass. Located next to skate park. Also, overall people park across the street is a nice walk for the dogs. Portable restrooms across the street.
Seaweed
Noyo Harbor BeachNot the most scenic. The crowd nearby was a mix of high end cars and possibly homeless folks. The dog beach had lots of drift wood, rocks, and seaweed. Not the most picturesque or the largest dog beach, but very thankful there is an off-leash area. There were only about three dogs there at the time - far less than the dogs people being to glass beach (leashed there). There is a unmarked restroom in the far end of the parking lot by the bridge. May be locked at night. Also, lots of graffiti, so maybe don't go at night.
Would recommend!!
Days Inn by Wyndham UkiahBased on Google reviews of ALL the hotels in Ukiah, I was very apprehensive to stay in town. Saw Motel 6 South and Quality Inn didn't want to stay there based on the crowds outside. Ended up at Days Inn and was pleasantly surprised. It was renovated during COVID, and it appears well kept. There wasn't a ground floor room available, but that was fine. Check-in employee was friendly, professional, and helpful/accommodating.
Second floor rooms had vaulted ceilings. Clean. Carpet appeared vacuumed. Room was spacious and well appointed. No bugs of any kind (no bed bugs, no roaches, etc). Microwave and fridge. Hot water and very high water pressure. Cute pool area. Restaurant on site. Cons: 1) it was in the 90s when we arrived around 8pm and the ac in the room wasn't on. The AC worked very well and blasted super cold air, but it took a couple hours to really get the room temp down. 2) There isn't a great place to let the dogs go to the restroom. OVERALL: Yes, I would say again and would recommend them.
Large & well kept
Pacchetti Dog ParkSmall dog area is okay, disproportionately smaller. Large dog side is spacious. Everyone brought their small dogs to the large dog side. Saw no issues, but ask for safety of your dog before doing this. Wood chips, but they seemed new and good quality. Benches, shade in the far corner. Water, but no restroom. Free street parking. General area is seemingly okay / safe unlike other parts of town. Entirely maintained by donations and volunteers. Please consider contributing (there's a box and sign on how to do so).
Not great for tourists
Franich Dog ParkArea seems more like a local spot and less so for tourists...dog park is fritz very limited shade. Benches, water, free parking.
Sand
Schoonover Dog ParkWanted to hit up a dog park and avoid the beach sand...this park is basically beach sand with dead weeds that were tufts of grass months ago. Limited shade mid day. Nice sized area for small dogs - maybe 150' by 100'?. Slightly larger side for large dogs. Seating. No water or restrooms. Free parking.
Not worth it / Tourist Trap
17-Mile DriveScenery was disappointing...go drive PCH for free and get the same or better views and stops. Don't pay for this. Bumper to bumper, miserable, stops subpar. Note: numerous switch backs makes driving miserable - better to take a tour, rent an e-bike, or ride a horse (none of which allows dogs).
Poison oak!!! And you pay to get here
Lynn Rip Van Winkle Open SpaceUse the address above and don't follow gps or it will take you through the gates ($11 toll). Once you get there / in, there was no map or names or trail markings to know where you're going (the trails are obvious, just not where they go). Also, tons of poison oak/ivy.
Pleasant surprise
Costa Mesa Bark ParkPleasantly surprised at small dog side. It was larger than expected, had some grass, a little bit of shade, several benches. Forgot to check for water...didn't notice it. No restrooms right there, but probably in larger people park. Free parking. Next to skate park. Seemed like locals didn't want to stay in the park late...perhaps it gets rowdy?
Small not a lot of shade
Portola Dog ParkThree small areas fenced. Dirt and some turf, small, canopy for a slice of shade. Water, restrooms, free parking.
Dirt
Dog Park at Recreation ParkDirt area. No grass in the dog park. There was a corner of shade large enough for a group to sit in and the dogs play. Interestingly / cool obstacle featuring big dead trees. Water. Free parking though I could see it maybe filling up when busy. Didn't see restrooms but I'm sure there is some in the adjacent people park.
Worn but okay
Extended Stay America Suites Orange County Irvine SpectrumA little worn, but could be worse. Kitchenware upon request (inconvenient). Could be cleaner also. Had multiple guests (families) bang on the door thinking it was their room, which is odd. Landscaping came 06:30 on Saturday morning disturbing the quiet. Hotel staff did not care and refused to tell them to stop. Equivalent to Motel 6 quality. Near Irvine Spectrum shopping and concert venue. Free parking.
Snobby crowd, small park
Newport Beach Dog ParkTwo fenced areas. Small dog side is turf and cement. Large dog size is turf cement, and a dirt area. All dogs were friendly and family breeds when we visited. Not super big, but was a good use of 'available' space between two roads. Canopy for some shade. No restrooms. Limited street parking. Was informed it is a homeless spot at night. Is next to transit station. Crowd was a bit snobby, as to be expected for the area. They don't seem to like tourists even on major holidays although I'm sure if you wear a Rolex, a massive diamond, and some other pretentious and guady apparel they will be friendly to you. Maybe I should go back just because they don't like my 'kind'...
Nice walking grounds
Huntington Beach Central ParkPaved walking paths, small pond, restrooms, cafe, playground. Nice for LEASHRD walks. There is also a fenced off-leash dog park with free dog wash. Dog Park is listed on here as a separate location for separate reviews. This review is for overall people park versus solely the dog park.
Located within the Central Park
Best Friend Dog ParkDog Park is located within Central Park. This review is for dog park only. Dog Park is two fenced off-leash areas within Central Park. Dog Park is dirt and some wood chips. Very dusty, but don't fret because there is a dog wash right next to it / between the dog park and parking lot. Shade. Lots of bugs. Water and restrooms near by in people park. Friendly people until they find out you're a tourist.
Found treats not found elsewhere
Pet Supplies PlusPet Store with food, toys, supplies, as well as full service grooming and self-serve bathing. Found our treats which are not carried at most other stores.
At least an acre fenced
Conejo Creek Dog ParkTwo dog areas by size. Each section is at least an acre apiece. Each section is about 1/3 beautiful grass and 2/3 dirt/sand mixture. Water. Benches. Pavilion. Trees are still too small to provide much shade. Trails on site as well. Restrooms. Free parking (could get busy).
Decent size but sparse
Walnut Grove Dog ParkSingle fenced off-leash area for dogs of all sizes. Area is approx 100x400'(?). Located behind ball field. Free street parking. Three benches. One 'pavilion.' Water fountain. Some shade. Mostly dirt with some dead grass. No restrooms.
Fenced & not fenced
Camarillo Grove Dog ParkThis enclosed dog park is open from 7 am to dusk and features many shaded areas and a doggie drinking fountain. The entire park is also an off-leash park Monday - Friday only. Saturday and Sunday dogs are allowed off-leash only in the enclosed dog park.
Requires leash between 1-4pm M-F
Mission Oaks ParkOff-leash times are Monday - Friday until 1 PM and 4 PM to dusk (must be leashed from 1-4pm). Also, not fenced (open on one side where you park and fenced on three sides). Super fun place with terrific grass and some benches in shady spots. Quite expansive, several times larger than Springerville. This is our favorite spot in the greater Camarillo-Oxnard-Ventura area.
Grass & Large - Just Lacks Shade
Springville Dog ParkTwo fenced areas - at least an acre total. Walking path around the large / all dog side. A few benches. Flat. The big draw is the lovely grass. Virtually no shade though. Water on-site and free parking. Restrooms in adjacent people park.
Limited hours and not free
Arroyo Verde ParkDogs are allowed off-leash from 6 - 9 am Tuesday - Sunday only. $2/hour or max $5/day for parking.
Large area and grass
Jax’s Windrow Dog ParkTwo large areas (approx 100 x 150' ? each) for dogs of different sizes. Obstacles. Grass. Limited shade. Benches. Water. Free street parking - can be difficult. Loved the nice, flat, large grassy play areas! Great find.
Fenced Dog Park
Dog Park at Tucker's Grove ParkThe dog park is in the very back of the park. Follow the road until it ends. Then WALK to the end of the road. There is a fenced dog park. Dirt (dusty) and tiny wood chips (check for splinters in their paws). Sole shade and benches. Trails, water, restrooms on site. Free parking. Self-service dog wash on site as well ($10).
157 steps (not 1,000)
1000 Steps BeachAccess beach below using 1,000 steps park. Its only actually 157 stairs. Leashed dogs allowed on stairs. Off leash on beach to the RIGHT of the stairs. If the tide cooperates you can walk the mile or more to Hendrys beach. Exceptionally limited street parking (free). No restrooms or drinking water. No shade.
Limited shade
Arroyo Burro Open SpaceArroyo Burro open space trails are not to be confused with the Arroyo Burro County Beach Park (aka Hendry's Beach) "next door." The park is 14 acres and features a trail along the creek. Leashed dogs welcome. Limited street parking. No restrooms or water.
Off leash beach
Arroyo Burro Beach (Hendry's Beach)Aka Arroyo Burro County Beach Park. Beautiful, peaceful beach for off-leash play. Approx. 1/2 mile long (?). Restaurant, restrooms, showers, and a for a fee self-serve dog wash ($10). Cons: no shade, oil in the water (this is nornal for this area due to the natural tar pits/oil fields), seaweed, limited parking.
Nice walk (short)
Carpinteria Bluffs Nature PreserveSystem of trails leading to a protected seal beach / rookery (breeding ground). Leashed dogs allowed on trails. Cross train tracks to subtrail and viewpoints. No dogs or people allowed on seal beach. Free parking. No water or restrooms.
Nice walk for leashed dogs and people
Tar Pits ParkNice walk along bluffs with breeze and oceanview or take the route on the beach. Only one of five natural places to view tar pits. Limited parking. Park at state park for fee or nearby residential area is free. Leashed dogs allowed on trail but not beach.
Restoration planned
Summerland Greenwell PreserveUnique property, but overgrown. Decent amount of parking (two lots). There is a very short path circling the property with signs identifying plants. You can get to this path from the first lot of the left (west) side of the building. There is a second, smaller parking lot on the right (east) side of the building. From the east lot you can walk up the dirt driveway. When you see a fenced gate with a no trespaasing private property sign look hard to the right corner and you will see a trail sign...heading back to the parking lot you came from. This trail then goes across the road and continues. The path runs along private property. A bit overgrown. There is actually yet another trail that was down the road before you came to the west parking lot. They have restoration plans in progress. Glad to see it will be restored since it seemed cool. No restrooms or water currently.
Fantastic picnic spot
Oceanview ParkVery small park with very limited parking, but nice grass and amazing view. (Website claims its 3.4 acres...not sure how they came up with that...) Picnic table. There is a trail up the road. Makes a nice lunch spot if you need a stop.
There is a fenced off leash dog park but....
Toro Canyon ParkThere is a fenced off leash dog park but....it's all dirt and prickly weeds, riddled with gopher holes, no shade, one bench. There are trails you can walk on-leash. Water and restroom. Free parking. No cell service. Mountain lions have been spotted on trails (and probably rattle snakes).
Limited off leash hours
Patterson Open Space8-10 am m-f only. Approximately the size of a good dog park - maybe a vouple hundred feet by a hundred feet; however, grass was approx 8-12" long and needed cutting. No water or restrooms. One bench (being your chair). Street parking.
Closed fie winter (still)
Tahoe City Dog ParkIt was still closed this week. Single fenced area for all dogs of varying size. A bit small for a dog park. Grass. Limited parking.
Closed still "for winter"
Tahoe UnleashedIt's after memorial day and this is still closed. Was a single area for all sizes. Dog Park is small. Some grass. Closed for "winter."
Decent for a Motel 6
Motel 6 Carlsbad CA BeachSmall, no fridge in most rooms, cleaner than expected though I did see a roach. Top bedding seems newer or was (hopefully) cleaned recently. Windows open for fresh air. Area is okay. They are situated between two more expensive hotels. With that said, most nights I was woken up between 11-3:30 am by guests being noisy. Not just one room - at least four different rooms/groups. Guests appear to be a mix of vacationers, white collar, blue collar, and maybe some people who live there. Water pressure was acceptable to good range though some may find the head too low. Staff was friendly and professional.
4 stars for air conditioning
Parkway PlazaFairly good size mall, types of stores equivalent to mission valley quality. JCP, Walmart, and more. Indoor mall that is dog friendly though only some stores are (like hot topic). Air conditioned so go check it out.
Just put down chemicals today
Poinsettia Dog ParkTwo fenced in areas by dog size. Small side size is decent, but could be a hair larger ideally. Dirt (dusty). Some shade on large side but not small side. Obstacles on small side. Water. Free parking - will fill during kids sports games. Note: they just put down some sort of chemicals today....
Don't bring your dog on this trail
Annie's Canyon TrailCute short trail through Annie's Canyon. There are two 'versions': the left is deemed moderate and is doable with a dog, but no view of the canyon really and not as fun while the trail to the right is deemed extreme. Do NOT bring your dog on the right / extreme version unless it is very small and you have a backpack carrier for it. The right/extreme version is shoulder width slots through the canyon with a portion on a ladder. Worse, there are so many people should be a 10 minute walk was an hour. While here sitting in line stationary, a man wasn't looking where he was going (walking backward and stepped on my dog). He didn't seem to care. I asked him nicely to please watch out for my dog, which he decided to ignore and appeared to deliberately try to step on (again). There were many other dogs there, but you can't see behind or in front of you more than a person or two so I don't know how they made out without a carrier - probably not very well. Also, no shade or water, so keep the time of day and weather in mind. Restrooms are more than a mile away I believe.
Needs a segregated small dog area
Nate's Point Off-Leash Dog ParkSingle fenced area for dogs or all sizes. Dirt/dusty (no grass). Not much shade. Don't know who posted that this is one of the best around SD, that is simply not true. Mostly all agressive breeds when we went no small dogs. Needs a segregated small dog area. Free parking but could use more parking area. Restroom in people part of the park.
Large but...
Morley Field Dog ParkSingle large UNFENCED area approx 100 x 75 for off leash dogs of all sizes. No grass. Lots of foxtails. Dusty, dirty, feces not picked up. No shade. Two benches and that's it. Water fountain. Free parking.
Grass currently while it lasts
Dusty Rhodes Dog ParkGood size space - maybe 60x100 for small dogs and an even larger area for large dogs. Had not previously been here as it looked dusty. Dog beach is so close, but we stopped here finally. There is grass currently while it lasts until it's burnt out. About 1/3 shade on small dog side and less on large dog side. Water and restrooms. Free parking, but could use more parking spots. No issues with people or dogs.
Dusty
Dog Park at Hollandia ParkTwo fenced areas by dog size. The small dog side is a bit small. Both are dirt/dusty. Virtually no shade depending on the time of year. Limited seating. Water. As pointed out, take the second turn into the park. The first turn is for baseball fields and skate park. Free parking. Restroom near the sports fields. Also a walking trail on site.

One area for all sizes
Dog Park at Montiel ParkSingle fenced area for all sizes. Guessing this 75x75. Dirt / very fine gravel. Limited shade. A couple dog 'obstacles' consisting of five steps, a 4-4' raised tunnel, see-saw, jump bar, & hydrant. Limited parking. Water. Portable restroom.

Mostly dirt. Some shade. Water. Limited parking. Great view. Probably a 3.5, but I'll round to 4. Also has some trails connected to it for leashed walking.
2 Stars may be a generous rating
Capehart ParkThe locals elected not to have the park closed for annual maintenance and it's really gone downhill. The amazing grass is now about 50% gone and the remaining 50% is clumps and weeds. The dirt flies when the dogs run. The small dog area is a small park and wasn't ideal size to begin with, but okay. The grass used to be the main attraction. There is a decent cement patio area for humans to sit. There is a tarp strung up for shade. No.or limited shade over play area. Water fountain. Free parking, but undersized parking lot and no street parking immediately right there. Still better than nothing, I suppose. I do hope it doesn't further deteriorate as this would make it even less useable/attractive. Portable restroom on site.
Interesting & delicious
Strawberry ShackDidn't make it through the strawberry fields? Don't fret, swing by the Strawberry shack to get your strawberry fix before leaving Carlsbad. Variety of items from strawberry tea/drinks, strawberry key lime pie, strawberry cheesecake, strawberry shortcake, strawberry ice cream, strawberry cookies, and more! While it appears I received something different than ordered, it was delicious. Glad I took that wrong turn and decided to stop. Exterior wall up window for ordering with pooch and take it to go.
Still closed
Torrey Highlands Dog ParkHas been closed since approximately November for rennovations
No shade and foxtails
Dog Park at Pacific Highlands Ranch Community ParkA 5 minute walk behind the sports fields are two fenced in dog parks (by dog size). Each has benches and water. Both are dirt areas (with weeds and
foxtails so check your dogs feet for prickers). No shade. Free street parking but parking can be crowded at times.
Too small, too sloped
Dog Park at San Elijo ParkBasically useless. Two areas, small dog area is worse. One bench, no shade during most parts of day, way too small and way too sloped for them to run or play. Watched a guy fall on the slope. Overheard three regulars complaining about how ridiculous this park is. Currently half grass and will be all dirt in summer probably. They should re-do it on a flater surface and do it right this time. Not worth a drive here. Water and restrooms on site/nearby.
Too small
Dog Park at Sunset ParkDog parks are both too small. it's throw to throw a ball in it...maybe a toss but not a throw. The small.dog size is super skinny too so hard to do zoomie circles. Ten dogs would be too many in this area. Water and benches but dirt and no shade. It's a shame they didn't make this nicer as the park itself (not the dog park) was well done.
Off leash hours MWFSun 6-730a & 3-8p
Sun Vista Park (East)Small area, not completely enclosed as it is not a true dog park, but a park that has off leash hours. Keep your dogs out of the brush as there is posion oak and nasty smelling mud. Water fountain. Street parking is somewhat limited, but you should be a lento find something within a couple blocks. No shade.
One one area for all sizes
Ann D. L'Heureux Memorial Dog ParkAsking for trouble. My dog was but and the lady said her dog is known to do that to small dogs. Needs separate areas. It could be divided and yes it would be tight but better than nothing. Wood chips. Limited shade. Limited parking. Mostly for the neighborhood, I'd say. Can't recall if there's water.
Small and limited parking
Dog Park at Olympus ParkTwo small areas for dogs and limited street parking, but better than nothing. Is a newer park, about a year or two old. Grass. Water. Virtually no shade.
Poor conditions currently
Westfield UTCThis went downhill fast. Last I saw it a few months ago it was immaculate. Now it's a muddy, the grass area is all torn up, the mulch area is bare, there are no bags left, water fountain is full of debris. Area is tinyband sloped. Quite sad. I hope they fix it back up. Maybe some turf instead. Shaded pergola is nice.
For a rest stop
Love's Travel StopExit 277 of i-40 Large fenced dog park made of river rocks. Contains display of petrified wood. No shade.
4.5 bones
Red Roof Inn Pensacola FairgroundsMy stay was clean. Are some of the reviews for a different location? I'd give it 4.5 bones but you can't so I rounded up. Know that I have seen some RRs that should be condemned, but I'd stay here again. Seems like a decent area. Landscaping was fine. Water was hot and good pressure. No longer has guest laundry.
Nice
Comfort Inn & Suites Melbourne-VieraRoom was clean. No complaints about room. Small dog park but was not clean nor was the grass nearby. Dog park also floods and is unusable at times. Building and parking area awkwardly close to Days Inn... about 20 feet apart. Should I have just stayed there instead?
