Amazing Staff

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Des Moines Downtown an IHG Hotel

First: the hotel staff is incredible. My senior dog has diabetes and cannot walk well, so first floor is always appreciated. We have stayed here before, but our recent stay was over a very busy holiday weekend where there were limited rooms available. Our first night, we were in a 2nd floor room, and our boy was struggling with getting to the elevator or down the stairs. Sim was working the front desk and not only stepped in to try and help us get him around on a cart, but made sure that the first ground-floor room that opened up was claimed for us to move into. I cannot say enough about how grateful we are for her compassion and willingness to help our boy!

Second: the location is great. It’s in an area with new development just far enough from the heart of downtown that you don’t hear cars at all hours speeding by, but it’s right off of the MLK Jr Pkwy so it’s easy to get around. We spend a lot of time in the East Village and it’s about a 5 min car ride away.
Third: amenities are nice. The parking lot is shared on the north side with an office building/Starbucks, so there’s plenty of parking. The property has a nice pollinator plot out front, and green space outside of every door. There are restaurants within a short walking distance, and the neighborhood seems safe and hip. Breakfast has some of your typical staples: yogurt, fruits, eggs, breakfast sausage, bagels, etc., but what we got a kick out of were the “conveyor belt pancakes.” It was a fun and unique addition to the complimentary breakfast lineup!

All of the staff were great with our dogs each time we’ve stayed here, and this stay really cemented to me how much the company puts compassion for all of its guests, 2- and 4-legged alike, at the top of their priorities!
