Wonderful Service

Island Explorer

We had a wonderful time using the Island Explorer to visit all the sights in Acadia. The bus is free and dog friendly. We visited in slightly less busy time than full season. I imagine it could be tight quarters in the height of the summer. The staff at the stops and the drivers were so helpful . They went the extra mile to make our visit special. Nymex really liked the bus trip as soon as he figured out how to get on ! Best decision to take the bus over trying to drive and find non-existent parking in Acadia.

Enjoyable lunch or dinner with dog

C-Ray Lobster

The seating is all outdoors, but they had a permanent covered area with picnic tables so even in inclement weather, you could eat with your hound. Friendly staff and very good lobster rolls.

Dog friendly and kind staff

Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound

We had an excellent lunch of lobster rolls and steamed crabs, all prepared after we ordered them! Very fresh. Space around the tables meant my dog could comfortably hang out with us while we ate. The staff was very kind when I ordered. and helped me bring the food to the table.

Dog friendly and the beer is good too!

Fogtown Brewing

WE had a lovely afternoon at the FogTown Brewing company. The staff was lovely and kind. Differently places to sit with your dog and you can bring your dog inside to order if you are by yourself. They even had non-alcoholic beverage for the designated driver that was interesting! Four paws up.

Smash burgers!

Pizzeria 131

The first night we tried Pizzeria 131, we did takeout as it was raining. There wa a covered area, but with the way it was raining, I don't think we could have stayed dry. The service was fast and very friendly. The second night, we ate inside, but checked out the outside options. Very comfortable if you wanted to bring your dogs. Lots of sports on tv and cornhole set up. Excellent staff. The burgers were smash burger style and very good. They also had pizza or subs and appetizers, along with local craft brews. Reasonable price for the area.

So nice, we tried it twice!

Cafe This Way

We brought our Alaskan Malamute to breakfast at Cafe This Way and were greeted warmly by all the staff. He is a big boy! The first day, we ate in their large outdoor eating area as it was a clear morning, We received a water bowl and there were probably 5 other dogs at breakfast. We enjoyed our meal. My husband liked his big breakfast and I really liked my lobster benedict. The second day was misty. We sat on the patio and put up the umbrella for a little coverage. There were two other dogs on the patio. Our server was very attentive and we again enjoyed our breakfasts. The greeter and waiters were all very polite and attentive.

Excellent dinner date with my dog

Mainely Meat BBQ

Mainely Meat provided outside seating and attentive staff. The food was very good, especially the pulled pork. Adjacent to an ice cream shop, so one stop dinner and dessert!

Excellent location

Days Inn Bar Harbor

This hotel is within 1-1.5 miles of downtown Bar Harbor. Some of the rooms have unobstructed views of the Harbor. There are two restaurants close to the hotel, neither allows dogs, but they do takeout. The room is spacious enough for a large crate and an Alaskan Malamute, 2 adults and all their gear. NO ELEVATOR. We stayed four nights. The dog exercise area is off to one end of the parking lot. You do need a headlamp or other personal lighting device with you. Its proximity to Acadia and downtown for the price is excellent. It isn't going to be featured in an interior design magazine, but it was clean and the staff was very pleasant. My bill was exactly what I expected, which is always nice. We would definitely stay again in the future.

Good staff, very poor hotel

Fox Ridge Resort

As we drove up the road, I really appreciated the layout of the hotel. Each ground floor room had door to the outside, which is very nice if you have a dog. The grounds looked very well kept. The room, however, was terrible. The smell was so strong and pervasive that I left the outside door open, hoping to air it out. No success. We arrived late, and unloaded to beat the impending rain, so we did not notice details of the room. Such details as a broken chain lock for the inside door, a leaking mini-fridge that soaked the floor in front of it, and an overall dampness to the room. We tried turning on the heat, but that just made it a hot musty smell. At about 4am, we decided we needed to leave. Everything we brought into the hotel, INCLUDING MY DOG, smelled like the room. None of the staff expressed surprise that we wanted to leave.

They were cooperative and refunded our pet deposit and did not contest our request for a refund of the next two nights. We did ask for a refund of the one night we stayed, as NO ONE should have been booked in room 108. We have not heard about that request. It is a shame that such a wonderful location and layout is being left to ruin. Upon returning home, we had to wash everything, including my Alaskan Malamute, to remove the smell. I believe that it is time to remove Fox Ridge Resort from a recommended lodging on Bring Fido as it is not fit for man nor beast. My experience with BringFido on the refund and notifying them of the problem was very good. The refund was prompt. But if the hotel is this bad, it shouldn't be on a list just because dogs are allowed there. One bone because ZERO is not an option.
