Not really a hike, but a beautiful park
Roosevelt Community ParkThe paved loop around Roosevelt is .33 miles, meaning (for me) it's more of a casual dog walk. The rose garden at the west end is spectacular in summer, and the winter lights make for a beautiful evening stroll. Yes, there are lots of dogs, lots of kids, and sometimes lots of both playing in the grassy lawn in the middle.
Famous, Infamous, and a Great Trail
Mesa TrailI've walked my dogs on sections of the Mesa Trail for years. There are a number of entry points, and widely varying difficulty levels. The entire trail is 6 miles long, winding at the base of the Flatirons (all of them) down to Eldorado Canyon Road. There is truly something for everyone on this trail, and encounters with other dogs are common. Encounters with other forms of wildlife (deer, skunk, coyote, bear) are not unknown, but not frequent. If Mesa Trail itself gets dull, numerous other trails branch off into canyons, up to Royal Arch, up many of the Flatirons, etc. You'll do a lot of hiking before this trail gets old!
Renowned for climbing, it's a great place for a hike
Eldorado Canyon State ParkThere are several trails in Eldo -- not just the road! Go up to the Service Center at the end of the park, and there is a kiosk with the trails marked. They range in difficulty, but most offer great views either of the plains or the Divide. And when you get back, Eldorado Creek is there for you all to cool your paws.
