Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Red Bluff-South Redding an IHG Hotel

My first reservation on this app. Nice hotel overall but several pet specific issues. Pet-friendly rooms usually on first floor, but our room was not on the first floor. And I wasn't the only one since I saw at least three other dog owners on the third floor with me. My dog is fine with elevators and the stairway is also carpeted/paw friendly so it wasn't an issue for me but if that's important to you, be advised.

The "pet area" is two pet bag dispensers by small patches of astroturf in the back of the hotel. It would have been nice except both dispensers were empty so there were a lot of poop piles everywhere. (I bring my own bags so the main issue for me was being careful where we stepped in the dark.) There are other astroturf patches and also some real grass patches at the gas station right nearby in the same lot that I saw a lot of dog owners going to but again, lots of poop bombs around all of them. Definitely other dog owners' fault but also not cleaned very often by the hotel.

There's also only one elevator in a small alcove so if your dog is reactive or nervous and running into other dogs in very close proximity is an issue for you, that may be a problem here. Both times we were coming out of the elevator, there were other dogs there waiting in the tiny alcove (there's nowhere else to wait) and it was tough trying to get them past each other even with relatively calm dogs.

The room itself was great. It was large and very clean and I even got lucky with a corner room so there were plenty of windows for my doggo to look out of. So I would say for a regular hotel, I'd have no complaints... but for a pet stay, it's average or below depending on your dog's needs. And the pet fee was slightly higher than other similar hotels in the area. I canceled a cheaper reservation down the road and reserved here instead because of the promise of a ground floor room and clean dedicated pet areas. So in the end the stay was fine but I'm disappointed with the overall reservation experience and spending extra money for things I didn't get.
