Very nice staff, good for one-night pit stop

Best Western Plus Midwest Inn

My husband and I traveled from California to Rhode Island and back this summer with our two dogs (80 pounds and 40 pounds), spending five nights total in hotels. This hotel was welcoming to pets, including big dogs, and we saw several other guests with dogs. They even gave us some dog treats when we checked in. There was a decent size grassy lawn area at the back for pet relief, although it had some trash around. There is a residential neighborhood across the street where we took the dogs for a decent walk in the morning – however you have to cross a busy street to get there and the drivers didn’t seem too familiar with pedestrians. The room itself was quite spacious and comfortable, but smelled like it had once been designated for smokers but was converted to a pet room. They offered a complimentary evening reception with beer, wine and snacks, and a buffet breakfast in the morning. There seemed to be a lot of families with children while we were there, maybe due to the time of year (early August)? My biggest ding on this hotel is its location. The surrounding area is a bit run down, and there were no places to get a decent take out meal nearby – basically just fast-food restaurants. It was fine for a one-night pit stop.

Best stay on roundtrip cross-country drive

Best Western Plus Sidney Lodge

My husband and I traveled from California to Rhode Island and back this summer with our two dogs (80 pounds and 40 pounds), spending five nights total in hotels. This was the best hotel we stayed at, for its combination of pet friendliness and location. First there is a nice, clean, and spacious grassy area with trees where the dogs could relieve themselves at the back of the hotel. Second, there are ample places to walk your dogs. We walk them almost three miles every day at home, and we tried to at least get out for 30-45 minutes before we got in the car for 10+ hours. This hotel is located near the Cabela’s headquarters, which has nice walking paths all over its property. There is also a small pond across the street with a path round it for a shorter walk (just watch out for all the goose poop). The room itself was clean and well appointed, with a comfortable bed and decent towels. They offered a small breakfast, which was mostly pastries and fruit. Since I am as food-oriented as our dogs, I always tried to find a place to stop that was near a restaurant where we could get decent take-out food, not fast food, for dinner. Just a few miles drive away to downtown Sidney I found Sam & Louie’s where I got pasta with an amazing spicy garlic sauce that I still think about.

Great hotel in a great town

Hampton Inn Rock Springs

My husband and I stayed here with our two dogs (80 pounds and 40 pounds) for one night of a cross-country road trip. It was one of the best hotels we stayed at. They are welcoming to pets and we saw several other guests with dogs. They ask you to sign a pet policy which clearly states their rules, e.g. don’t leave pets unattended in room. There is a very nice, clean, and spacious grassy area where the dogs could relieve themselves at the back of the hotel. They even had a kiosk with poop bags in case you forget yours. We were on the second floor near the back, which was a great location because we could walk down the stairs and right out the back door to reach this pet relief area. The room itself was clean and well appointed, with a comfortable bed and nice towels. The breakfast was extensive with bagels, cereal, oatmeal, and hot options like omelets, sausage and potatoes. Overall the property is well maintained and in good condition. Rock Springs itself also was a good place to stop on a long trip. The scenery is pretty and there are several restaurants close by to get take-out for dinner. I ended up going to Bitter Creek Brewery in the downtown area, a couple of miles away, and enjoying a beer while I waited for some delicious pasta to bring back to the room.
