Disappointed to hear no longer dog friendly

Black River Tavern

After many years of visits for the delicious food and pet friendly patio we were disappointed to hear the patio is no longer pet friendly. I recently attended an educational seminar on the difference of service dogs and therapy dogs. Since we travel with our dogs I posed the question about pet friendly patios. The expert stated that it is purely the owner of the restaurant’s prerogative as to whether or not they are pet friendly on their outside seating. Of we are not sure what happened here for the change in policy. It’s just disappointing as we really were looking forward to wine and relaxing on the patio with our pups.

Pet friendly and great food!

Su Casa Restaurante

we really enjoyed our visit! Very pet friendly. Brought our dogs water and ice. There are steps to get up to the deck which were a little tricky to navigate with our dog stroller for our special needs dog. But the great service, excellent food and drinks were worth it!

Disappointing

The Henderson Castle

Sadly we did not have a good experience at this one time beautiful castle. We found the outside of the property and the cottage we reserved to be very neglected. Much to our surprise there was not a shower in our bathroom but an old Jacuzzi tub with broken jets and a hand held shower wand. The room desperately needed renovation. The carpet and flooring was extremely dirty, paint was chipped off the walls in several areas, the window air conditioning unit was duct taped in and duct tape around the doors as well. We did not have TV or internet connection our entire stay despite our many requests for assistance to connect. I will give them kudos for being pet friendly as we had our two small dogs with us. However it was not pet safe. Our dogs brought us a dead mouse found inside our cottage as well as mouse poison. We were told we could take the dogs out the back door for their outside duties but the grass was overgrown. Lastly we ordered room service breakfast for our first morning which was good. However it was assumed we wanted it the next day. We did not place the order and therefore were charged over $40 for a breakfast we didn’t order!

Love, love, love this place!

The Thirsty Hound

OMG! So pet friendly! This place is all about dogs! We enjoyed the fenced in patio with a glass of wine and the pups! Plenty of room for dogs to run and swim! We were not there on a night of food truck or music but were not disappointed! The ladies working that night were so friendly and loved our pups! So welcoming and happy to have us. We’ve planned another visit to Kalamazoo and around.an evening with music at The Thirsty Hound! Definitely a 5 bone review!

Not fit for dogs or humans!

Baymont by Wyndham Kalamazoo West

To give credit where credit is due, this hotel was under renovation. However, we arrived at 4pm to stand in line for 45 minutes just to check in. It took 3 people to get us checked in (mainly because there were many smoke breaks within this 45 minute period) only to find that the room we reserved was offline due to the renovation. They had to “find” us another room that was online. In addition to “finding” us an available room they were still turning rooms over from check outs in the morning!

Renovation aside, the entire hotel was filthy. Upon arriving to our room the bed was not finished, the carpet was filthy, the linens were in poor condition. We decided we were not staying in this hotel and contemplated driving home!

The customer service was extremely poor. None of the staff seemed to know how to operate their software. There was one woman who worked diligently, really tried hard at her job and didn’t take a cigarette break every 5 minutes. No one seemed to really know what was going on or which rooms were ready and available.

When we returned to the desk to express our concerns, explain the hotel was not as represented online and ask for a refund we were told that if we denied alternate accommodations at their location there would be no refund! We don’t expect a 5 star resort when traveling with dogs but the accommodations should at least be clean!

Pet friendly, clean and human friendly!

Staybridge Suites Kalamazoo an IHG Hotel

We initially planned a stay at this hotel back in early July but had to cancel due to a medical emergency. When life settled and we felt able to travel we attempted to book a room here but the hotel was booked. It was a last minute decision to decide to travel over the weekend so we booked elsewhere. When that didn’t work out we called Staybridge to see if they had any cancellations. We were in luck! They had a queen suite so we took it! We’ve stayed here in the past with our pups and had a great experience. Sure enough, the manager, Joy, was there to welcome us (and our pups) upon our arrival, provided great customer service and truly showed appreciation for thinking to call them to check to see if they had a cancellation. The location of the room could not have been better!! We were near the elevator (but never heard it) so it was easy to take the pups out, the room was clean and bright and linens were in great condition! This hotel really came through for us in our time of need and we will return next summer for a pupcation!
