Beautiful Hike!

Knights Ferry Recreation Area

This gorgeous hike along the Stanislaus River is a wonderful place to take your dogs. There is a covered bridge and old buildings with signs that share the amazing history of the place. You can walk across the bridge to a picnic area or take a side trail down to the river. The water was so clear it reflected the sky. This is definitely a hike and dogs are required to stay on leash. There is elevation gain and some rocks to climb up. It’s not terribly difficult but you won’t be taking a stroller anywhere. The path is dirt and there isn’t much shade. I love that they have trash cans periodically on the main trail so you don’t have to carry your poo bags. The trail is clean no trash or dog poo. There is also a bench along the way to stop and rest after the first hill. We went early in the morning and there were hardly any people. It seemed when we were hiking out mid-day that a lot of people were coming in so I recommend an earlier start. It’s $5 to park for the day and there are lots of parking spaces. There are bathrooms at the start of the trail by the picnic area. Overall a fantastic place to spend a day.

Easy And Beautiful Walk

Stanislaus River Trail in Ripon

This trail has many little dirt pathways that wind along the river. The main pathway is paved and great for walking. The trees are beautiful especially in fall and there are all sorts of flowers along the way. I did notice there is a lot of trash and it seems that dog owners don’t pick up after their dogs. Please, keep the trail nice for everyone and clean up after your pet. Cyclists also use the path so keep your dog on leash so they don’t cause an accident. The main trail follows highway 99 and can take you all the way into Salida. Overall a great walk and my dogs enjoyed it!
