Great Dog Park

Dog Park at Village West Park

My Wife and I live right next to this park. We've had nothing but fantastic experiences with all the dogs and their owners until today. We arrived at the park and their was one other man there with his dog. We came in walked up to the closest picnic table. This guy's dog ran up to us, jumped up on the table was friendly. Our dog gets a bit jealous, and protective. After his dog jumped up on me, our dog, who was with us, while his was away from him, chased after his dog playfully, and came back. We went about our day playing fetch. A few minutes later, our dog went closer to him and his dog to investigate. He stood up offensively towards her, and our dog barked at him, and then ran off again. Then this man came unglued telling us we had to leave due to her being "aggresive." He acted as if he owned the park. We tried to explain that she was simply trying to play with his dog, after it came up to us, and he did nothing. The dog was great, and we took no issue with it. We pointed out that his dog was the one who started the play, unsupervised. Once again the issue is not with his dog, rather the owner who ranted about our dog being "aggresive" but saw his dog was "friendly". I assure you his dog was being friendly, but also was ours. The issue was an extremely over uptight owner yelling at us to leave, and his inability to know how dogs play. Later in the day, I went back to the park, making sure he wasn't there. All the regulars were there. I told them about the incident. They immediately asked me for a description of this guy and his dog. They all started nodding recognizing the description and said they've ALL have had issues with him doing the same to them. They all also reassured me that they've never had an issue with our dog, and confirmed that guy has no ideas how dogs play. All their dogs, and ours wrestle happily when they play. It is not AGGRESIVE. I feel this matter needs to be presented to the city, and this individual needs to be dealt with. His dog just sits right next to him, and seemingly he does not allow it to play with other dogs. He then accuses other owners of having aggressive dogs if they try play with his. What is he doing at a dog park, if he doesn't want his dog to play? I will be calling the city on this matter.
