Dog FORWARD!

Chill Kitchen & Bar

I once heard this term, as opposed to "dog friendly" to describe hospitality that goes above and beyond to welcome our fur babies, and that is exactly the experience we had at Chill Kitchen & Bar. Great food, excellent drinks & phenomenal customer service for the dogs AND humans!!! They have a great multi-functional outdoor space for seating, some with partial overhang (shade, protection from rain, walls that hang when colder), and some sunny/shade with umbrella seating. All fenced in and provided some privacy from the busy road!

Crepes were good.

La Maison Navarre

I don't know if it depends on staff, but when we went for breakfast today they were not dog friendly inside. We arrived right when they first opened and they were not busy at all. They "allowed" us to sit at one of their outside tables, but you need at least 1 person to go inside to order without the dog(s). You also cannot order alcohol if you are sitting outside. We enjoyed the food, and all the attention of passerby(s), but I'd say dog tolerant, not friendly.

Depends on what you are looking for

AC Hotel by Marriott Portsmouth

We chose this hotel because we needed to break up a long drive, and they had 1 room with a soaking tub. We only stayed one night. Staff were friendly in general, only 1 staff showed any interest in our dogs specifically. We got a LOT of paws-itive attention from patrons and they all loved to learn they could bring their dogs. Note there is a single-time cleaning fee of $100, which we understand and are happy to pay to have a place to stay with our girls. We can see how this may make them appear "dog tolerant" versus "dog forward" or overwhelmingly welcoming. We were told dogs are not allowed at the rooftop bar/restaurant, therefore we walked downtown Portsmouth til we found a restaurant with a semi-enclosed dog friendly patio. We would stay there again!

Incredible View!

The Algonquin Restaurant

The place was hopping when we arrived (a Saturday, 7:30ish pm). When my husband went up to ask the host for a table, she asked how big vs. small the dogs are, and then said she had what she thought would be a good spot for us. It was the PERFECT spot! Our 100lb Newfoundland and our medium Lab/Pointer mix fit just fine, and it had an incredible view, right on the docks & water!!! My husband enjoyed the Arancini and the boneless wings. The Soft Pretzel Sticks were perfectly hot and soft, we loved dipping them into the queso that had a bit of a kick to it, as well! I got their house made Cold Brew, with Salted Caramel syrup, and enjoyed that the next morning as well!!

Interesting.

Davidson Brothers

This was a mixed experience for us...with so many things changing due to COVID, we called ahead to make sure they were dog friendly. The man who answered the phone enthusiastically said "YES! Come on in, the patio is wide open!" Upon arriving no one was outside, so my husband masked up (required inside regardless of vaccination status as of 8.21.21) and went inside in search of someone. He couldn't locate anyone for the longest time. We did eventually get sat. They had no issue with the size of our dogs, med Lab/Pointer mix and a Newfoundland. Soon after another couple arrived at the patio with a boxer. You pull up the menu using a QR code and order electronically from there. I had their Summer Sour, it was ok. The electronic ordering system limited changes you could make to your food order. I didn't love what I got (the fish tacos) and my husband thought his burger was good. Possibly the worst part of the experience was the yellow jackets attacking us the entire time, I couldn't wait to finish and leave.

"Dog Friendly" is the only nice thing we have to say....

Parkette Drive-In

On our first road trip (due to COVID) stopped here for dinner while passing through. Saw this was on Diners, Driveins and Dives and had high hopes. Menu also looked great, we were excited! We were pulling a trailer camper, and were in luck to find a nice empty parking lot in the back (knowing we wouldn't fit in the drive-in order spaces). We first tried calling in our order, phones were either ringing off the hook, or not working, or off the hook on purpose. Masked, my husband attempted to go inside to order, he was stopped by staff and told to walk up to one of the drive-in spaces to order. The first one he attempted, no one answered, he tried repeatedly, then decided to move onto another space, this one picked up on the first try. Food was okay, nothing memorable except our horrid attempts to order food, met with subpar customer service. I can't even really verify that it is dog friendly, given that our dogs stayed in the car, and that's where we ate as well.

PHENOMENAL!

The Shaved Duck

If you are looking for a fine dining restaurant, with amazing food, AND is dog friendly, you must check this place out! For my dinner, I got the duck confit (appetizer) and a side of mac & cheese, and it was PHENOMENAL! Unfortunately we were only in area to visit family for a short time, but I absolutely cannot wait to come back! Customer service was phenomenal and staff loved our dogs too <3

Our first outing since COVID!

Local Cantina Webster Station

On our first road trip, with our dogs along with us, we came across this fabulous option on our way through downtown Dayton, for outdoor dining with our dogs! We had our own masks (but the restaurant had masks at the door for any patrons who didn't) and from what we observed staff were very conscious of safety, cleaning and protocols. We appreciated being able to view the menus on our phone (instead of worrying about touching menus that were touched by others). Staff were "paw"-sitively engaging and even spoiled our girls with a frozen treat, absolutely perfect for the hot evening we were there. We enjoyed the food and the drinks thoroughly!! If in the area, check it out!

Great option!

Dayton KOA

This was our first road trip experience, also our first camper experience. Although only there for a very short stay (1 night), we didn't use many of the amenities (there were plenty!), we thought this was a very nice property! We found the dog friendly fenced in area to be on the smaller side, but worked well enough to let our dogs stretch their legs off leash!! Additionally, we found the city of Dayton to be very dog friendly! If coming to the area again, traveling by the same/similar means, we would stay here again!
