Great hiking
Clifty Falls State ParkMy pup and I visited Clifty Falls a couple weeks ago and loved it. We've hiked every Indiana state park, and this was easily in our five favorites. There are lots of trails and beautiful waterfalls and rock formations to observe. We'll definitely be back!
Beautiful scenery!
Pikes Peak HighwayMy dog and I went up to MM 16 (as of July 2020, there is construction at the top so we were told this was as far as we could go). Sadly, it was cloudy at the top so we weren't able to enjoy any great views from up there, but we pulled off at a gift shop around MM 7 and there was a beautiful reservoir that was so serene and peaceful to enjoy for a while. My dog did fine with the heights and I didn't notice any labored breathing. Dogs aren't allowed in the water, though, but my dog doesn't like swimming so this wasn't a problem for us. Dogs are also not allowed in any of the gift shops, which was a bummer because I had wanted a souvenir.
Nice hiking!
Fort Harrison State ParkFort Harrison is a great place to go hiking not too far from Indy! There are trails of varying difficulty, and a nice paved pathway as well if you or your dog cannot do unpaved walkways. I'm definitely looking forward to taking my dog back for a hike in the future.
Great views!
Rocky Mountain National ParkI wish that RMNP was more dog-friendly, since my dog and I both love hiking. We were able to drive through the park and pull off at some parking lots to take in the views, but this was definitely not the most dog-friendly place we visited on our recent trip to Colorado. It was worth the visit, though, but we only stayed about an hour and a half.
Wonderful hiking!
Red Rock Canyon Open SpaceMy dog and I stumbled upon this hiking space on our recent trip to Colorado, and we're both so glad we did! We did the Mesa/Greenlee trail, and it wasn't too difficult, but gave us both some good exercise. They do have two fenced-in areas where dogs can run off-leash, but my guy is an escape artist, so I didn't want to let him roam free without being able to thoroughly check the fences. It wasn't too crowded at all, and the scenery was breathtaking. If we ever come back to Colorado, this will definitely be on our list of places to return to.
Beautiful views!
Royal Gorge Bridge & ParkThis was one of our first stops on mine and my pup's recent trip to Colorado, and we were both impressed! The park staff were super friendly (especially to my dog!) and kept offering him cool water throughout our stay. Dogs are allowed almost anywhere in the park, except for at the theater and at the cafe. There is a restaurant on the grounds that has outdoor, dog-friendly seating, and dogs are even allowed in the gift shop. This was the priciest stop we made on our trip, so I'm not sure if it would have been worth it for more than a couple of people. But if you're in a small group or traveling solo, it's definitely worth stopping by!
Amazing scenery!
Garden of the GodsMy pup and I recently took a trip to Colorado, and I think this may have been my favorite place we visited. The views are breathtaking, and the trails weren't too strenuous for my little guy who isn't used to the Colorado altitude. It was more crowded than I thought it would be, but we arrived at 9am and were able to mostly beat the crowds. As we were leaving, there were TONS of people heading into the park, so I definitely recommend getting an early start if you don't want to deal with crowds.
Great history!
Manitou Cliff DwellingsMy pup and I visited Manitou Cliff Dwellings a couple of days ago, and it was wonderful. It was probably the most dog-friendly place we went on our trip to Colorado -- dogs are allowed ANYWHERE people are allowed, even in the museum and gift shop. They even gave my pup a couple of treats, and it was truly a great experience. The museum was very cool to see, as were the historical cliff dwellings. I'd highly recommend visiting here, whether you're human or canine!
