Lots of things to like here

Best Western Columbia River Waterfront Hotel Astoria

My dog Sadie and I had a great time here. The room was in great condition and we loved having a couch to sit on (we were in a Queen Deluxe Studio). We stayed on the first floor which was most convenient, and they put us near the end of the building by the Riverwalk entrance so it was so easy to head out for a picturesque walk several times a day. The location on the river is fantastic. While it’s a walk from here to downtown, that never mattered. We were taking day trips further afield anyway, and this section was really lovely. We had some yummy food here in Astoria, specifically at Busu. Homemade Japanese-style pickles were fabulous! I got extra to take home. When I come back I’ll stay here again.

Very nice stay here

Best Western Desert Oasis

This was a modestly sized room with clean tile floors and a newly remodeled bathroom. Very slick. The rest of the room and furnishings are a bit dated but everything was super clean. I had to clean up kibble off the floor at some point and found no dust bunnies, crumbs or anything else on the floor. Yay for great housekeepers!

We also appreciated having a room close to the side door, which let me park my van right outside my window to keep an eye on.

Pros (hotel and room 103)
- clean. Clean.
- tile floor, new bathroom
- nice staff, and efficient
- nice breakfast sandwich for takeaway breakfast. Much appreciated.

around.
- AZ side of the border so gas next door is cheap
- felt safe walking my dog around even with the kind of chaotic end-of-holiday-weekend traffic.

Cons
- Adjacent to a truck stop so its really busy parking area. I had no trouble parking, there are just a lot of vehicles moving around.
- not a clearly marked doggy area. The adjacent gas stop has a big lawn though so we used that, as well as the rocky borders around the motel.

I would definitely stay here again.

Needs new flooring

Comfort Suites at Tucson Mall

Pros:
- Very nice staff
- Convenient to Sweetwater Wetlands for birding
- Tons of 3 plug and usb charging ports in the room (perfect for recharging after days of camping!)
- room was very clean except...

Cons:
- Ancient stained carpet. No odor, but a couple big stains and general grime. Bathroom floor was fine (tile). Yuck. -1 bone
- Bathroom sink didn’t drain well
- No warning that the breakfast buffet no longer has eggs and bacon or whatever. Only pastries, some fruit, waffle maker and cereal. I pay extra to stay places with breakfast so this dropped another bone. -1 bone

Nonetheless I would stay here again if they updated the rooms. The positives were really positive, so I hate singing them in a review but...pet friendly shouldn’t mean grimy carpet. Tile or pergo would be a thousand times easier to keep clean.

Great location

Best Western Plus Ruby's Inn

I loved staying here with my dog. After reading another review here I requested a Lake View room and it was perfect. FYI: the building is called Lakeview and one side faces the lake/pond. The other side is fine too, facing a lawn that my dog liked :)
In mid-October the pond was pretty dried out but staying on that side was quiet and less busy than the Ponderosa building on the main road. I sat my lawn chair outside the room with a dog bed alongside and watched the geese on the pond.
During our stay I did have a problem with my room lock that required replacing the whole lock me and the maintenance people were all right on it, getting it fixed within hours.
This is not a fancy place - 1980's Best Western - but its a huge property that is great for riding or walking around with your dog through the campground and grounds.

Nice hotel and staff

Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Barstow an IHG Hotel

Sadie (my pooch) and I stayed here overnight on our way to southern Utah. We had a nice sized king suite with a comfy couch (probably a pullout) in the sitting area. The room and hotel were spotless and the room and furnishings were in excellent shape. All the staff wore masks which I appreciated! There’s a doggie area at one end of the hotel and a nice path around the whole building, suitable for potty breaks and a short walk. Full breakfast in the morning (takeout these days) was great to have just before heading out on the road again. We would definitely stay again!
