We regularly board dogs in our home, so we don't travel too much. But when we do, we bring our tricolored Cockalier puppy, Padma. We're usually checking out disc golf courses, breweries (especially for gluten free beer options), wineries, vegetarian restaurants and pet friendly hotels.

Dog friendly patio & delicious food

Burger Bach

We were starving after a decent day of disc golf and needed some place that would allow dogs and had gluten free options. We found this place and realized that we had been to their Durham, NC location and loved it!

They had a small outdoor patio where we could sit with our dog. One of them turned on the heaters, which was really helpful, as it was cold and windy. Some of the plastic patio windscreens would be even more helpful here though. As the wind was pretty biting. We would have stayed longer and probably gotten another drink or 2 if that was the case.

But, overall the food and service was spot on!
The spinach dip and fries are to die for. I got the vegan black bean burger (which is gluten free) on a lettuce bun and it was fantastic! My spouse got the gluten free bun on his burger and loved it.

If you haven't checked out this place yet, I think it's simply a must.

Dogs allowed inside!

Urban Farmhouse Market and Cafe

We happened upon this gem of a restaurant by searching the Bring Fido app. They allow dogs inside the restaurant as long as they are well behaved. They have gluten free bread that's local, for those of us with Celiac. They source what they can locally, which was an awesome find.
We split 2 different sandwiches and 2 sides. Both were phenomenal and I loved their fall slaw! The juice bar was out of commission while we were there, so I good a Chai latte instead. It was very good. An overall phenomenal experience and I would happily go back again if we were staying in the area longer.

Awesome Baltimore Gem

Patterson Park Dog Park

This was an awesome find in an otherwise fairly concrete city. The kids and the dog have had a blast checking it out. Tons of walking trails, a few parks, lots of green space to throw Frisbee for our pup, some water areas, and a lot of sticks, geese and birds. It's close to quite a few dog friendly options also, so we are thrilled with this find. The rest of Baltimore has been a little lackluster for us compared to this.

Dog friendly at least

Mahi's

This was one of the only dog friendly restaurants we were able to find on the boardwalk. The menu also had some vegetarian and gluten free options, so if was a winning option.

We had a hard time finding anyone to seat us, so I had to go inside and track down an employee to ask. They did seat us finally, but then it took over 10 more minutes for anyone to come take an order from us.

While the service wasn't great, for a restaurant that wasn't busy, the food was really good and they had a cider option. We all enjoyed the food and the atmosphere.

Awesome Disc Golf, Dogs & Deglutenized Beer

Forgotten Road Ales' Monthly Dog Social

We stumbled across this brewery via a local we met while playing disc golf at Cedar Rock and Wellspring.

They surprisingly and happily deglutenize (or gluten reduce, in laypeople language) most of their beers. Just ask when you come in or take a look at their menu and you'll see which options they have that are currently gluten reduced.

The beer flavor profiles were some of the best I've ever tasted. And my spouse, who doesn't have Celiac, concurs wholeheartedly.

They have a really cool outdoor seating area in the back and a mini disc golf course to boot. So if you like disc golf or deglutenized beer, this is one of the best hidden gems we've run across in multiple states.

The bartender/brewer/owner was pretty cool and really knowledgeable also. And they are extremely dog friendly too. So that's an even bigger bonus.

Good local watering hole

Beer Lab by Ghostface Brewing

After our horrible experience at the Ghostface Scratch Kitchen, we headed over to their sister bar in hopes of any sort of reprieval.

This one did not disappoint, luckily. We showed up at the tail end of Wednesday night trivia, so it was a bit raucous.

But the bartender was great and the large outdoor pet-friendly patio was just what we were looking for. The beer was cold and tasty for my spouse and they had a decent wine selection for me. The prices weren't bad either. Overall, it was a good way to end the night.

Great local find on the water!

Hello, Sailor

We were sent to this restaurant by a local who used to work here and we weren't disappointed. The staff was friendly and the outdoor pet-friendly deck was perfect for us with our puppy. It overlooked the lake and was extremely serene.

The walk-up bar service was fantastic and expedient. I enjoyed my wine and my spouse enjoyed his beer by Noda Brewing. They didn't have a ton of both gluten-free and vegetarian options.

However, I was able to find an Impossible Burger without the bun and coleslaw as a side. My spouse got ribs and their beef fat fries. He said it was all delicious and would definitely eat there again if we're ever back in the area. Overall a great food experience!

Awesome stay, as always!

Tru by Hilton Mooresville

We've stayed at a Tru hotel in Virginia before and loved the experience for ourselves and our puppy. So we sought them out again on our trip to Charlotte and were lucky enough to find one just north in Mooresville. The staff was exceptionally friendly, just as they were at the other Tru hotel. The hotel layout and rules were the same, which was nice and familiar. My only complaint with this one was that they didn't offer any gluten-free bread or bagel options at breakfast, like the one in Lynchburg did. When I asked the staff about that they informed me that not all Tru hotels are owned by Hilton, but can be franchised. This one happens to be owned by the same local company that also owns the Aloft hotel next to it and a couple of other hotels in the area. So, while they have to abide by most of the same rules, they have some flexibility in some areas, including the food. Therefore, my only request by franchised Tru hotels would be to please carry some gluten-free bread options for breakfast for those of us who need/want it. Otherwise, fantastic stay and we'll definitely be back again the next time we're in the area.

Good last minute dog friendly dinner find

Zapata's Mexican Restaurant

We were on the hunt for any place open that would accommodate our puppy and my vegetarian gluten free diet. After driving around for much longer than we wanted to be in the dark and having a few misses, we found Zapata's.

We did have to wait a bit longer than necessary to get anyone to acknowledge our existence and seat us.

But once they did seat us on the patio, our server was fantastic and very friendly. The food was good and we both enjoyed our drinks. If we're ever back in the area, this is a place to consider.

Great local breakfast find (Gluten free options too!)

Blue Ridge Bagels

We heard about this place from some locals and also saw it on the Bting Fido app. It did not disappoint!

The service was fantastic and they are pet friendly on both outdoor patios.

They also had two gluten-free bagel options, plain and everything. We both decided to get egg and cheese sandwiches with the gluten-free everything bagel, at the suggestion of the employee we spoke with.

We also got iced Vanilla coffee with almond milk. Even the ice cubes were frozen coffee, which was a really nice touch.

The bagel sandwiches were delicious, as was the coffee. Although the coffee was a bit sweet for our liking, but we don't normally add sugar to our coffee. We toned it down a bit with some regular coffee we had been sipping on in the car and that made it perfect for us. But we're not your normal coffee drinkers, so it's probably spot on for most people.

Either way, this was a great find and a fantastic way to end our trip.

Mediocre at best & not so dog friendly

Aloft Charlotte City Center

The staff was luke warm with their friendliness and enthusiasm upon check-in and out. Parking is an extra $28 a day in a parking deck which is crazy to me since we paid to stay at the hotel. The hotel says it's pet friendly and didn't charge us extra for our dog, which was great. But there's absolutely no spots available on the property to take a dog out to use the bathroom. So we had to wander around downtown in an attempt to find any sort of green area for our dog to use the bathroom. Therefore it's really not dog friendly in that regard.

The room was nice, but there's no bathroom fan at all. Therefore anytime one of us needed to use the bathroom more privately, we had to turn on the television to help drown out the noise. I was not a fan of this at all because that's distracting when I'm trying to read or meditate. Lastly, there is absolutely nowhere to fill up our water bottles. We were told they don't offer free water but we could purchase water bottles if we wanted to. I didn't realize we were only charging for water in this country and was under the assumption that we still had access to free water. Silly me.
