Ok to stay, but LOUD

Americas Best Value Inn & Suites Oroville

PROS: Great big dog “island” for dog business, clean room, nice staff. CONS: Loud Traffic Noise at front of property. Lumpy pillows, average mattress. No breakfast (due to construction).

This is an older sprawling single-story motel which clearly needs some upgrades. I stayed in room #106, which is near the front of the property (closer to street) and was awakened early in the morning to the sound of loud truck and traffic noise from Route #162 out front.

The room itself was clean and roomy, with vaulted high ceilings and laminate floors (not carpeted.) Shower water pressure was great! Furniture including bed was older, in need of upgrade; Mattress was average, pillows were lumpy.

The motel lobby was closed due to renovation construction so check-in is done at an outside “night” window. Although the property description indicates a continental breakfast included in the room price, as of the time of this review there was NO BREAKFAST PROVIDED due to the lobby construction - not even fresh coffee, There was, however a “pod” coffee maker in the room that produced lousy coffee, The good news: There is a Starbucks down the street,

In the center of the motel parking lot, there is a large oval dog “island” with plenty of room for dogs to do their business and explore smells. Poop bags provided. Overall, the place was OK for a 2-star hotel. If you consider staying at this property, I would strongly advise booking a room at the rear of the property, and hopefully the traffic noise will not be so bad.

Good Clean Stay (with sound issues)

Baymont by Wyndham Kingman

I stayed at this location for one night while traveling across country with my dog. The room bedding, surfaces and brown laminate floors were clean. Amenities included microwave, refrigerator w/freezer, desk, and armchair. The bathroom (toilet and tub/shower) was the tiny, but the sink in the area outside the bathroom door provided plenty of bathroom counter space. There were, however, sound issues: The hotel is located right next to the freeway, train tracks, and a major truckstop & thoroughfare (route 66). So, the location has a constant “roar” outside, barely audible inside the room. My particular room (#110), had a connecting door to the adjacent room (#109). Unfortunately, there was no soundproofing for that connecting doorway, and sound traveled easily between the two rooms through that doorway. I could clearly hear the TV from the adjacent room, which kept me awake at night, and the family in #109 left very early, waking me up in the morning.

Although very pet friendly, there’s very little grassy area for dogs to exercise. There is a dirt strip behind the hotel for dogs to do their business.

I would’ve given 4 bones for this hotel except for the noise problems.

Typical Motel 6

Motel 6 Gallup NM

I stayed at this location for one night while traveling cross-country. Typical for a Motel 6, better than average for Motel 6. Bedding and all surfaces were clean, but the brown laminate floors were filthy (I wiped them down with a wet towel before unpacking - ruined the towel.) Staff was very nice. Coffee available in the morning in the front lobby. Good price. There is a gravel/dirt area behind the motel for dogs to do their business. Hint: Ask for a room on the south side of the building (the same side as the office), facing away from the freeway

Good Clean Place to Stay

Days Inn by Wyndham Altus

I stayed in this hotel for one night while traveling cross-country with my retriever-type dog. This is the type of motel where the room doors open up to the parking lot outside. So, I was able to park right outside my room. The room itself was clean (stains on the carpet not withstanding - see below) with comfortable mattress, clean crisp bedding, a refrigerator (without freezer), microwave and an HD TV. The hotel staff were Oklahoma super-friendly and accommodating. There is a plenty of grass and a huge field behind the motel for dogs to run and do their business. The exterior grounds could use a bit of sweeping and maintenance.

The motel overall could use some attention, mostly due to its age and small maintenance issues. As noted above, they were a few bad stains on the carpet in my particular room, but the room smelled and looked clean. The shower controller wall plate was loose. Wi-Fi worked well, and the lobby (mostly cold) breakfast in the morning consisted of cereal, bagels with cream cheese, yogurt, etc.A good (not great) place to stay, A good value for the price. I would stay there again if I were passing through. 3 bones plus an extra bone because the staff were so friendly.

Good Basic Stay

Catoosa Inn & Suites

Traveling across the U.S. with my Retreiver mix dog (75 lbs), I called ahead to the property to see if they would break policy and accept a dog greater than their 40 pound limit. The property manager and I agreed that I would stop by, and the owner/manager could meet me & my dog, and assess whether my dog was a good, gentle non-destructive dog (which he is.) he was very friendly. Upon meeting me and my dog, he sold me a motel room for the night, with the understanding that if there was any destruction or problem in the room, I would be charged a $250 cleaning fee.

Although not a ‘luxury’ hotel, the room was modern and clean, with plenty of space. The bed was comfortable, on the firm side. Basic amenities provided (they provide a bar of soap and shampoo) there was a fridge and microwave in the room. Simple, mostly cold breakfast was provided in the morning, including a waffle machine. There is a diner specializing in breakfast right next-door to the hotel.

Unfortunately there’s not a lot of grass on the property itself for dogs to ‘do their business’, and they discourage dogs on the small patch of grass that is on property. However, there’s an ample strip of grass along the busy roadside in front of the hotel. Bottom Line: Definitely a step up from Motel 6 at a very reasonable price, clean & friendly, but not luxury accommodation for people or dogs.
