Hotel cancelled our reservation without warning

Courtyard by Marriott Portland Hillsboro

We arrived around 1:00 on a Saturday in late June and were told they could not check us in until 4:00. Our reservation receipt said 3:00 but we knew it was still early. When we returned after 4:00, we were told they had cancelled our reservation due to “cleaning issues”. We were not informed they were having any issues three hours earlier, no one called us before we tried to check in, nor did they attempt to email us to let us know they had cancelled our stay. They didn’t apologize, there was no comp offer or a discount for a future reservation, and they didn’t try to find us another hotel - they deferred us back to Expedia. Their whole attitude was ‘not their problem’. Based on this service, we would never return here or recommend this hotel to anyone else. Their attitude is indicative of poor management and this type of culture in the hospitality industry appalling. It’s not worth the risk of a bad stay even if they don’t cancel your reservation out from under you.

Great room and service

TownePlace Suites by Marriott Portland Beaverton

Our reservation ran from Friday to Saturday in late June. The hotel is in an older section of Beaverton but has been recently renovated and feels very luxurious. We celebrated a birthday here and the hotel is surrounded by restaurants, shopping, sublime pastry shops, and activities. The service from staff was five star, plus they provided treats and a water dish for our dogs. The room was a little small but quality of the furnishings, detailed cleanliness, and upgraded kitchenette made up for the size. Loved our shower. Metal plate for drain created a melody when water hit it, very nice touch. Dogs had nice bathroom space that was easy to get to. Hotel offered several amenities we didn’t use in the night we stayed but seemed very nice. Overall, we had nothing negative too say about our accommodations or service. Will look to book here first in the future.

Worth the stay!

Comfort Suites Springfield RiverBend Medical

Our reservation ran from Saturday to Sunday in late June. We had another room booked in Hillsboro, OR but at check in we were informed they cancelled our reservation due to “cleaning issues”. When we tried to book a room elsewhere, we discovered there were no rooms available in the Portland area due to the extreme temperatures. Locals without AC had booked up every single hotel within a hundred mile radius. Although it was an hour and a half out of the way, we lucked out finding this hotel because we got the second to last room with the last room being taken within seconds of our booking.

Based on our short experience here, we would definitely return....in the off season. We paid three times the going rate but it is what it is. Soundproofing could have been better but it could have been worse. We could hear doors slamming at times and once heard a man talking on his phone in the next room, although it was muffled and brief. Our dogs will growl or bark once in warning which is the only reason we mention it. The staff was very efficient and friendly (housekeeping left us a note welcoming us and hoping we enjoyed our stay), also they had welcome bags specifically for our dogs with treats besides a list of where to’s and how to’s. We ALWAYS appreciate this consideration. The room was a little outdated (not a fan of the bathroom layout) but EXTREMELY clean and comfortable. They served a hot breakfast which was surprisingly good in terms of hotel fare. There was no designated dog area per se, but there were several expansive green grass areas we were encouraged to use with only one bag station at the property edge. We have our own leash poop bag dispenser, so no big deal to us. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to explore what the locals had to offer as we needed to return home and had an additional hour and a half commute. Yet, after researching the area, we would absolutely come back to explore and would stay here again.

Goods and bads

Candlewood Suites Vancouver-Camas an IHG Hotel

Our reservation ran from a Monday thru Friday in late June. We subtracted a point for cleanliness. On arrival the room smelled peculiar, not like it had been recently cleaned, plus we found dirty utensils and cups in the cupboards. Room service does not clean but once a week unless requested. The carpet is in desperate need of shampooing, so wear shoes/slippers or else your feet will be black from who only knows what. We subtracted another point for the dog area. The poop pail was overflowing with bags and the lawn nonexistent, it was basically a strip of dirt with some rare patches of over dried out sod. Our dogs refused to use it and we had to drive them to other locations as there are no other grassy areas around the hotel. We subtracted another point for the poor soundproofing. The second to last day of our stay, we had to complain three times in the middle of the night about the residents above us. It sounded like children were running around and rough housing. There was loud stomping, banging and thudding. Our last night we realized that no one must have been occupying the room our first two nights because the noises continued throughout the day and night.

On the plus side, the room is decent sized and recently refurbished, the bed was comfortable and the kitchenette serviceable. However the fridge is really loud! Also, we did not utilize the “lending or laundry services”, so can’t comment on those options. The staff was very friendly and the price for accommodations reasonable. There are numerous places to dine and shop close by and access to the freeway is only a couple of miles away. The area of town is newer and the scenic views are lovely. There are waterfalls and decent hiking trails about 40 minutes away. We wouldn’t stay here again though.
