NOT Dog Friendly (in-season)

Popham Beach State Park

I clearly understand that dogs cannot go on the beach in-season. I was not planning on taking my dogs on the beach, but rather sit at a picnic table and have lunch with a view of the water (from their website: Picnic tables and charcoal grills are located near the beach, all with views of the water.). There is a sign posted at the gate stating "no pets" and the Park Ranger would not allow us to enter, even after explaining we would not go on the beach. I asked if they had a picnic area and was told, "there's one table but that wouldn't be any good for you." After a short conversation with a rude Park Ranger we were forced to leave, being told "go to the fort down the road, that's privately owned." So, "pets are not allowed on beaches" really means pets are not allowed in the park at all.

Nice Park

Merrymeeting Dog Park

A nice, basic dog park. I visited with my two yellow labs in July, 2022. As previously mentioned in a review, the google map directions are inaccurate. There are two separate fenced areas, one for small (under 25 lbs) dogs and the other for larger dogs. Double gates to enter and a water spigot nearby. The grass was a little high and there was one shade tree with a benches underneath. There were two other dogs there at the time and they interacted well with watchful owners. It was a clean park overall and it seemed that owners cleaned up after their dogs well. There were bags and a disposal until near the entrance. Good place to get the dogs off-leash and running.
