    Kerrville River Trail

Flatrock Park is at one end of the Kerrville River Trail. Dogs on leash can share the wide concrete path along the Guadalupe River. almost no one there on a midweek afternoon in October. Keep an eye out for fast moving bicycles. Great walk.

    Fantastic space for dogs!

We were on a day trip to Kerrville and stopped here for our dog to run a little. It's a wide open space with a trail for walking. Plus it is on the river, so our dog was able to get in and swim and fetch. Tons of room to roam and explore with shade trees and trash cans.

    NOT Dog Friendly...

We came on a Sunday and the gates were closed and it’s very clearly marked NO DOGS ALLOWED.

    Simply the best

We spent time here yesterday and it was great. Enormous area very well kept. Undoubtedly the best dog park we have visited. Kudos to Kerr County and the people.

I visit the park at least 15 times each month. Dog heaven yes. Redneck problems no. Dangerous for your dogs yes and this is why. Inadequate signage or posting of rules. Many people don't realize that it is a leash free park and will bring aggressive dogs on a leash. Their expectation is that if your off leash dog comes to say hi to their dog and gets attacked then you are at fault for not controlling your dog. We get around this by keeping a close eye on the park. If we see a medium to big dog on a leash we come back later. If someone shows up while we are there with a medium or big dog leashed, we leash our dogs and leave. Be smart and cautious but go and let the dogs have fun. This will be unpopular but I have to say on or off leash we leave immediately on seeing a pit bull. Before we learned better we had two incidents there involving pit bulls. I was bitten one and my puppy had a near miss another time. I will never let my dogs near a pit bull again. Fisherman and people enjoying a picnic at times are annoyed by our leash free dogs. The problems that exist can be fixed with better signs explaining to people how this park is used.

    I'll be going back!

So, I'll start with saying I have read the reviews regarding a certain ill-tempered gentleman, but I have yet to run into this individual. I have been several times to this park and have met ONLY friendly people and well behaved dogs. I will say this, it is a very large park with good fencing on one side and the Guadelupe on the other, however, if you have a dog that is likely to run from you and not return when prompted, it could pose a problem for you. The entrance, unlike most dog parks I've been to, is not gated. It is simply a single cable attached to some wooden posts seperating the park from the parking lot and other vehicles. That is the only reason I gave it 4 bones instead of 5. Please check it out and hopefully I'll see you there!!

    Fun for Fido

We have been visiting the area for the last month and especially enjoyed the dog park. Big area for our old guy to run free and take a wade in the river.
Most of the people and their dogs have been very friendly. Except for one very rude older gentleman. We first noticed him as he raced down the road leading to the park. When we arrived my husband attempted to get out of the car but this man's dogs were already at our car and crowding him as he opened the door
. My husband asked the man to call his dogs as our dog was being protective of "his" car and my husband. The man answered back "No! This is an off leash park. If you want your dog on a leash go to some other park". We then remembered we have run into him one other time when at the park. He chastized my husband for having our dog on a leash in the parking area. I'd like to add my husband is a retired veterinarian and knows a little about dog behavior.
Enjoy the park but watch out for the older man with a large black dog with docked tail and a small Shepard cross. He Does Not have them under control contrary to the rules.

    Dog Heaven

This "Dog Heaven" has been our destination several mornings a week for 7 plus years. Here our dog socializes with small and huge dogs, chases squirrels, runs full speed, could swim in the beautiful river and especially enjoys the petting and occasional treats from dog lovers - primarily retirees.
Any responsible owner of a well mannered dog is always welcome to enjoy this "Dog Heaven"

The people who gave negative reviews are probably the ones who have the problem. I come almost every day and have never seen anyone, but nice friendly people. The dogs say hello to one another and go on their way. I have 3 (one blind) and they love the dog park. Don't let 3 disgruntled people out of the many who go there discourage anyone from going. Its a wonderful place for dogs and dog lovers. Dogs are God's gift to us. Please respect that!!!
