Greenhorn Park Greenhorn Park is one of the eight parks maintained by the City of Yreka. Dogs are welcome at Greenhorn Park but must be leashed on a lead no longer than 6-feet in developed areas. Dogs may run off-leash under the control of their owner or handler within undeveloped areas of Greenhorn Park; provided, however, that the owner or handler shall have a leash in his or her possession and keep the dog under control at all times. If you don't mind crowds than this is a lovely spot to bring your dog and let him swim. If you hang to the right at the lake you will come to a smaller beach that is a nice little swimming hole. It's a moderately easy, 4.5-mile hike at Applegate Lake that will take about 3 hours to complete with Fido. After leading along the lakeshore, this trail climbs to the French Gulch trailhead.
