Description

The Birches Resort was built in the 1930’s as a hunting and fishing lodge. Located on Moosehead Lake in Rockwood, Maine, on a privately owned, 11,000 acre nature preserve in the heart of Maine’s Great North Woods, the last remaining wilderness in New England. In the summer try canoeing, kayaking, hiking and mountain biking. In the winter take to the trails on cross country skis or snow shoes, or explore the area by snowmobile. Search for wildlife on a moose cruise or wilderness safari. Like to fish? Fly fishing and ice fishing are our specialty. Take a dip in the lake, work out in our fitness center, or just kick back and gaze at the beautiful scenery. All activities originate from the resort; once here, you won’t need your car.

Dogs loved it!
We stayed in a cabin and the entire place seems very dog friendly. The cabins are RIGHT on the water. There’s some live music and a small restaurant but be sure to call ahead. The cabin we stayed in did not have a TV but honestly it’s not needed, bring some games in case of a rain day but you’ll end up spending most of your time outside. The staff was friendly for the most part. I would highly recommend brining some sort of cleaning spray, maybe your own sheets and if you’re big on cooking, your own pan to cook in (the non stick part seemed to be gone on the ones provided). It was a fishing lodge so if you’re in need of some of the comforts of home, I’d bring those few things. Bring some water toys too! I grabbed some Kong water toys and the dogs loved it!

Pub & restaurant was rustic & lots of fun with great food
But the great staff really makes the place
