      dog has to stay outside the fence

      Your dog has to stay outside the fence. So managing your dog from where you sit is not ideal, and somewhat impossible. Not sure on the food. We didn't stay.

      Your dog needs to stay outside the fence

      Our puppy is too small and kept getting in so we left. Not ideal.
