Location
Dog Park at Heavenly FarmsThe entrance is located on Heavenly Farms Park Rd just off of Dunham’s Corner Rd. The park is clean and friendly with some nice shade trees and benches. Separate areas for small and large dogs. It is not a big park but it is big enough for the dogs to sniff and socialize.
Wow!
La Quinta by Wyndham North PlatteAfter a couple of mediocre stays on my journey westward, I thought this was a very worthwhile splurge. It is so clean! So comfortable! So much grassy lawn space! Great option. I would happily stay here again.
Mixed bag
Quality Inn Peru Near Starved Rock State ParkI had a quiet, restful night here with my 2 dogs. There is a good amount of green space to walk them. The rooms are nicer than the common areas. The breakfast area is pretty grim but there are many fast food options nearby. The carpets seemed and smelled damp. Perhaps they had been cleaned. When I checked in, I was told they had a pretty serious gas line repair the night before. That made me feel anxious about spending the night but the place didn’t blow up so I guess it was fixed properly.
Quiet but
Microtel Inn by Wyndham Henrietta/RochesterI was grateful to get a room here because the other options were sold out. The room itself seemed reasonably clean and was quiet and comfortable. The exterior and common areas seemed pretty worn out. The exterior door to the premises did not lock. My biggest concern is that I found what looked like a large gluey tray under the bedside table that I think may have been a mouse trap. The idea that a mouse could have become trapped on it while I was sleeping is pretty horrifying.
Regular Stop
Hanscom Dog ParkI always stop here when on a road trip with my dogs. It is right off the interstate and has easy parking. It is well-attended with happy dogs and attentive, friendly owners. We always have a good time here. It has three areas — big dogs, all dogs, and small dogs.
Great spot!
Bow Wow BeachWonderful, huge park surrounding a lake.. We stopped here while on a road trip. Many places in the surrounding area had mixed reviews. I am really glad we chose this spot. The dogs had a blast and the regular dogs and people were very friendly.
Beautiful park!
Hammel Woods Dog ParkLarge grassy areas, woods, pathways etc. Really fun for the dogs. Water available just outside of the park.
Fabulous!
Raccoon River Dog ParkLove this park. It is very easy to get a pass online. It is like being on a hike but the large area is entirely fenced. Volunteers distribute water jugs throughout the park. Wear bug spray in the summer. Great place.
Wow!
Indiana Dunes State ParkWonderful beach! So pretty. Nice people. We went east of Kemil Beach. The dogs had a blast! Yes, there were mosquitos but it was worth it.
Off the beaten path
Waggin' Tails Bark ParkI always stop at this park when I am on a road trip with my dogs. It is tucked away in a corner and kind of hard to find. We always have a good experience here. It is large with lots of trees and benches. We always meet friendly dogs and people but it never seems crowded or intense. A good, quiet, interesting stop for the dogs.
Clean and quiet
La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Des Moines West CliveWe were very happy to arrive and find people coming in and out with many cute dogs - large and small. It was completely quiet overnight. Our room was clean and comfortable. We had a room with 2 full beds, which would be small if more than one person were sharing a bed, but were perfect for 2 separate adults and our 4 dogs (no extra dog fees!)
Surprisingly quiet
La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Sandusky Near Cedar PointVery nice hotel. Tons of cute dogs. Good grassy areas. Hotel has a strange layout with large windows along the passage hallways and just small windows in the room. It was very clean and quiet. Would happily stay there again.
