We recently took a quick day trip to Washington NC and stopped in at the dog park. I was happy to see that there are separate areas for large and small dogs since my dog seems most comfortable around other small and medium dogs. The dog park is an easy walk from the waterfront area and fresh water is availalble. We enjoyed our visit and will come again the next time we are in town.

The park is pretty nice, though *very* sandy which makes it very muddy with the slightest moisture, even when it's not raining.
We're not fond of the cliquish owners who clearly gather there on a regular basis, letting their dogs of *all sizes* into the designated small dog area, leaving them unattended while they sit and chat. Our 4 month old puppy was greeted rudely and cornered and bitten by several dogs whose owners refused to call them away - even when we had her settled and sitting calmly in our arms. They would not keep them away, forcing us to leave.
It's owners like these that make what should be a fun experience, just plain bad. If you can find a decent time to go when these people aren't there, give it a shot. If you see people there, behaving like a pack of unresponsive stupidity, leave immediately and save yourself the trouble.

This is by far one of the cleanest and well kept dog parks that I have visited in the past 4 years.
The rules are reasonable and as a result, the park is very well run and is a safe place for your dog to play.
