Reviews
Visitors praise Whitefish Dunes State Park as a fantastic dog-friendly beach with miles of scenic hiking trails. They note the spacious, uncrowded dog area and the clear, clean waters of Lake Michigan, though some caution that the mile-long walk to the dog beach can be tiring.

Great trails to walk. Fun on the beach
- NainikaFeb 22, 2024great dog beach
The beginning portion of the beach is all for people, but if you hike a bit of the way, there is a dog friendly area. This is not as crowded, yet just as pretty! There are additional trails throughout the park to hike with your dog too so they can dry up after beach time. When we went, it was off-leash in this area, but some other reviews make it sound like this may only be on-leash now.
- DonnaJun 20, 2023Great beach!
wonderful beach after .75 mile walk. Only one other dog/family there so we let our 2 dogs off to frolic in the water. Just beautiful! A great place for families & kids, too.

This beach is amazing. The dog portion goes on as far as you can see. There is tons of space to spread out. Beautifully clean sand beach with the crystal clear Lake Michigan water.

This beach is beautiful. The dog area is huge so you can spread out from everyone else. Water is clear and clean. Lake Michigan is sand bottom with very few rocks. Perfect dog beach one of the best we've been too!

The water is cool so this is perfect for hot days. Keep in mind it is about a mile walk to the dog beach. That makes it challenging to bring much for supplies. The water is clean and clear. People had good manners when we visited. I would rate this spot a 5 if the hike was not so far. We were to tired to check out the other trails.

Great beach! About a mile hike in to the dog friendly section, but the path is beautiful and wooded. Water is monitored for safety. Lovely place to you and your dog to hang out and enjoy the beach and water.
