Dogs are not permitted between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Waste of a day off. Drove 35 minutes and paid $16 dollars to park (where the workers greeted our dog as we paid) and then hiked all the way down the beach only to find the dog area is gone and a cop on a four wheeler is handing out tickets the moment one touches the sand. We didn't see their tiny signs driving in and would have expected someone would say something or have a sign up before taking our money. Was also disturbed to find that in lieu of the new rules people were simply leaving their dogs in cars in the hot sun, which probably should have been a priority over ticketing dog owners. Would have gone to the regular dog beach had their website been updated with the new rules which state dogs may only be on the beach before 11am and after 5pm. Super disappointed.
- RiskaMore than a year agoNot really much of a dog beach.
Sounds like some new rules have made this place less than stellar. Dogs can only be on the beach before 11 am and after 5 pm, and on top of that they are only allowed on part of it. They did tell us we could have our dog out in the parking lot area. Well woppty-freakin'-do. Never going back.

Can bring your dog but not after 11am and not before 5pm. So middle of not not dog approved.
Can go before 11am and after 5pm though.
:) hope this helps! - AutumnMore than a year agoDogs aren't really allowed anymore!
Dogs are only allowed at certain times to be there now, I was very disappointed! Traveling an hour to get there is no longer worth the hassle. It wasn't that nice of a day on a Thursday (almost no one there) when I went and then was immediately approached and told I needed to leave by the DNR. When I was told about the new rules, I asked for another close beach to take my dog and son. They sent me 15 minutes farther away and I had to pay to get in. I will not be returning.

please contact the grand haven city council if you appreciate the dog beach and want to improve the experience. the board of parks and recreation tried to pass a proposal to ban dogs on the dog-friendly beach which was rejected yesterday, 3/3/14. The location described is somewhat innacurate, the on-leash dog-friendly section of the beach is approx. 300 yards south of the bil-mar. It is to the left, but it is not the whole beach. it is past where the beachgrass starts.
- KatieMore than a year agoGreat day at the beach!
The dog area was a bit of a trek from the beach parking & the walk down the side walk a bit of a pain with an anxious dog, but once we reached the beach, we had a blast! The beach was clean & while they advise keeping your dog on a lease, most owners let their dogs run. It was great to see the, all running together or a group of dogs chasing a ball into the water. Enjoy!
