- ToddAug 9, 2024Fairly decent for the price
It’s now $10 flat fee for 12 hours (CC only), and they lock the gate at 9pm. We were in our small RV (there’s about 5 small RV spots), so no need to check out the porta-potties (there are 8). Handicap don’t have to pay (4 spots). Dumpster available for trash. Nice, looong, sandy beach, so not hard to get away from the bulk of humanity who stop at the bottom of the stairs. Sign says dogs on leash but we let ours off after we got far enough away from all the people, which was pretty much what all were doing. Did not encounter any aggressive or unfriendly dogs. Was happy to see that given the number of dogs, I didn’t see any poop left behind on the beach; different story for the trails up on the bluffs at the parking lot level! There’s about 105 parking spaces (they’re numbered, that’s how you pay), and it was about 80% full at around 4 on a Friday, so probably pretty packed on weekends. A San Mateo County Sheriff pulled in around 5:45 and parked for about 15 minutes so that’s good to know that they’re checking things out.
- CindyMay 8, 2022Great Dog Beach!!!!
The most fun my big puppy has probably ever had at a beach! And it was a dog owners dream to play with him for hours as he ran in and out of the water as he chased the ball.
Parking (beware of the Porta Potty‘s) is about 100 feet from the wide stairs that lead approximately 60 feet down to the always clean beach. Not the typical black sand NorCal Beach. I hope you and your pup enjoy it as much as we do!

Great beach to bring your dogs. It says dogs have to be on leash but a lot of people had them off leash.
- KrisAug 17, 2020Good Location, Off-leash Possible
Visited Sunday 8/17/20. most people were taking appropriate Covid precautions. Reasonable access from most Bay Area regions, but need to arrive before 10 to get a parking spot. Traffic on way out is bad after 2:30. We hiked about 1/2 mile south from the access trail and set up at least 50 yards from nearest other families. Although not legal there were a good number of dogs off-leash, probably 50/50. Biggest negative is the steep beach and dangerous undertow. Need to be very careful here, and if your dog likes to play in the surf he needs to be a superior swimmer.

Great beach for both people and dogs!
- TasneemOct 16, 2018Steep walk to beach, big waves, beautiful
This is an on-leash beach with a steep walk from the paid parking lot (was $2/hr, cards only) down to the sand. The waves were too big for my 45 lb pup to swim, but the views were beautiful. We even saw 3 dolphins playing close by in the water!

This is supposed to be an ON Leash beach, but be prepared for dogs to be off leash.
The trail down to the beach is steep, but manageable, it is gravel and dirt, and can be slick.
There is paid parking, it does take credit card.
There is no running water, and only port-a-potties available as restrooms, but they were clean.
Overall a good fun Beach, would be better if people followed the rules.

Great open area for dogs to run without disturbing other people. I come once almost every week with my West Highland Terrier. Although officially off leash, as long as your dog behaves itself, most people have their dogs off leash. You can walk down the beach to avoid people. It's also very close to 92
- MarthaMore than a year agoCrowded
Went on a beautiful Sunday. It was so crowded there was no opportunity to take our dogs off the Leah...and no one else did either. My 4 bones rating is because it's a beautiful setting. We'll have to experience the beach on a weekday.

Great dog beach! Was surprised to see how many dog walkers come here.
The beach is great, just watch out for the never ending trails of horse poop (EVERYWHERE!) on the beach & the lovely smell.... If you can put up with that, you are golden ????
It is posted as a leashed beach but 90% of the dogs out there have been off leash; all very well behaved dogs, so far. - KristinMore than a year agoGreat beach for dogs
We had a great time at this beach! Most dogs were off leash, including ours, but they were all well behaved and the owners paid close attention to them. The hill getting down is steep, but not bad as long as you have the right shoes. It was a beautiful and peaceful beach.

Great beach...and although officially on leash, many well behaved dogs enjoying it off leash. We were able to walk down the beach and get to a place with very few people around.
Ratings could only be better if officially off leash!
And thanks for the above post with GPS settings...they were right on! - ShaliMore than a year agoVery dog friendly!
Lovely beach. Not too crowded and you'll see many pups around on leash. A couple people also have their dogs off leash. Our pup had a lovely time! The only downside is entrance had a lot of horse poop but once you pass the steep entry, it's lovely!
- TrishaMore than a year agoGreat Beach to take doggie
Great beach to take doggie. I only saw one other dog on a leash.Others were off leash. Sand is a little rough than I'm use to. Lots of horse poop near the cliff on the beach so walk further in closer to the ocean. I didn't find the hill to get to the ocean very steep. But I may have gone down a different hill. I used the one near the metered parking lot. When using a GPS to get there, use address 152 Poplar St. Half Moon Bay

This is probably your best bet for a dog beach. Dogs are supposed to be leashed, but many aren't, which is a pain. Be warned the cliff to the beach is a bit steep.
