There are many restaurants and art spaces. You can take pictures in front of murals or enjoy the skate park. Health department states no dogs inside restaurants, but Asheville is very dog friendly and allows them on the patio with a few rules.
Check out the Marquee building in River Arts South is dog friendly, no backpacks or large bags allowed inside (they have complimentary lockers). Inside, everyone was respectful of pup’s space and asked to pet first. The employees love dogs and offer treats and showed pictures or their own personal dogs. WARNING: watch the path because sometimes there is broken glass or sharp gravel around the area, especially in River Arts North where there is a lot of construction. - RobertaJun 26, 2018Dog friendly and artsy shopping area
In terms of dog-friendliness this area is a 5. There were a couple of stores which had no dog signs. In others we asked and were always told our dog could come in. Often he was warmly welcomed. My only complaint is that stores open late, often after 11am, even when their signs state otherwise.

The River Arts District is a great place to bring Fido. We are still figuring out which places I can go in and everyone seems friendly. There are lots of places to walk around and see the urban art or be photographed. Be careful as there is lots of broken glass and not necessarily catered to dogs. There is a dog park nearby and lots of places to grab a bite or a brew. I definitely frequent the area. BTW, the skate park even let me inside to watch the boarders and I had a blast.
