This dog park near the pond behind the old Sugarcane Bldg. is a nice, shady spot for you & your dogs. There are separate large areas for large and small dogs however the large dog area is bordered on one side by the bayou (with no fence.) Although it doesn't seem to be a problem for most, if your dog likes to go for a dip, he can.
Both sides have poop bags that are usually stocked. Each side also has a picnic table for seating. There are pots available to fill with fresh water - and a hose adjacent to the dog park makes it easy to procure.
There aren't public restrooms close nearby - though there are some in the park which can be reached with about 5 mins of walking. (The dog park is at the end of a loop on a very nice walking/biking path, so it's easy to play AND then go for a walk. There is ample parking and the area is well kept.
After visiting quite a few dog parks on a recent out of state trip, I'm happy to report that this park is one of the better ones I visited. There are even kids' (doggie) wading pools on site that can be filled if don't mind Fido getting wet.
We are lucky to have a caring community of dog lovers that have made this dog park possible & I'm grateful.
