Problem stated above cannot be overstated. People with improperly socialized dogs and little or no control of them. I had a small dog that was nearly killed 4 yrs ago by an owners gang of 3 large hound mixes. I was bit as I held my little dog above my head to protect her. When I called the county bureaucrat in charge of the parks to complain about the lack of enforcement he said ,”It’s people like you who ruin the dog parks for invalids who cannot walk their dogs anyplace else!” Apparently my suggestion that parks needed more enforcement is tantamount to suggesting their closure and/or railing against the rights of persons with disabilities????? If the county bureaucrat in charge of the parks is irrational, then it goes that the parks themselves are a hotbed for other irrational persons ( not all of course but enough to make it a poor choice for responsible dog owners). The professional dog community in Rochester usually echoes this notion by heavily advising against bringing your dog to the parks as the risk of injury is too great.

That whole “one person ruins it for everyone” thing - applies here. The park itself is great, and huge. The patrons that feel the need to police the park and say there are cameras (there are not) and be generally one of the meanest encounters of my life, are not great. And ruined our experience here as out of towners looking for a place for the pup to stretch his legs after a long car ride. Thanks to that patron, we won’t be back.

I started bringing my puppy Shaggy here last October and he loves it. The three separate areas for small dogs, large dogs and the pond area is fantastic as everyone can choose whats best for them. Most regulars are wonderful people and so are their dogs. There is the occasional scuffle but for the most part they are few and far between and most people manage their pets well. If you expect all pets to be perfectly mannered and respond instantly to commands this is not the park for you. But if you understand dogs sometime play a little rough and enjoy it and you can tell the difference between rough play and a potential fight then come here. Trust me your dog will love you for it.

I love ellison dog park! It is well maintained, the park provides poop bags and most people are very good about cleaning up after their dogs. My dog LOVES the pond and going there to run around and play with the other swimmers there. Most of the dogs are well socialized so there really arnt many fights, and the ones I have seen are very minor scuffles. The other people there are generally very friendly. The park is "self monitored" which is both a good and bad thing, I would be annoyed if I had to pull out paperwork constantly to prove my dog was registered, but there are also people who bring little kids in there which really is so dangerous considering the size of some of these dogs alone! (I've only seen this I think twice out of all the times I've been there, and once someone actually did call the cops on them) Overall, I've really enjoyed bringing my dog here, and will continue to bring her a few times a week.

The lock is ALWAYS broken, so there is no need to pay the fee for the park. They seldom check for registration, so everyone brings their dogs. Children under 10 are not allowed, but there are kids as young as 2-3 running around. I have actually seen people bring in babies. People with aggressive dogs should not bring their dogs here, but they do. There are many dog fights because owners are irresponsible. Some people do not pick up after their dogs even though there are free plastic bags to do so. I have seen one person with as many as 5 dogs with them. Last night (5/3/15) a women with 5 pit bulls let them all in the large dog area and there were many fights. She didn't leave - the other people in the area did. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE VIOLATE THE RULES PLEASE CALL 911 AND REPORT THEM. THE POLICE WILL COME AND ISSUE TICKETS. If your dog doesn't listen to you, has aggression issues, or is not socialized, please do not let them off leash to cause issues with well behaved dogs. I wish I could rate this higher, but I have seen so many problems with dog owners and the lack of enforcement I am unable to.
