This park is a mesh of branching paths rather than a single hiking trail. It's fun to explore without feeling like you have to go a certain pace and you can make your trip as long or as short as you want. Good if your dog or human isn't up for a strenuous hike, although it's hilly and unpaved.
We went on a 90 degree day in September so we didn't get to explore the whole park due to concerns about the heat. Lots of dry grass and only scattered trees. Bring sunscreen and water! It's probably greener at other times of the year.
Regarding coronavirus, even though there were lots of cars, there was plenty of space to spread out. You'll want a mask for the parking lot and the trails when you first enter the park since those are busier.

used to be a great park until Menlo Park decided to throw good money away on their "mall cop" who constantly drives around the park eying dog walkers up like they were potential domestic terror threats

We love going on short hikes at Bayfront. Keep to the trails and you will not bother any wildlife. We have seen skunks, raccoons, owls are other birds around the park. Watch out for off-leash dogs, it is a large area and there are some people who do not follow rules. It does warm up a lot during the summer and we would advise against going there until the temperatures cool down, we go in the evenings when it is comfortable.

I used to go to this park frequently, is a very large and diverse trails come along. Is supposed to be on leash, but is really big, so you can let your pooch go around off leash for a while. During this summer, me and my dog had three encounters with skunks that thanks to natures miracle it was not awful. But right now is full of skunks that supposed to be nocturnal, but they are around during the day. Either BE CAREFUL AND ATTENTIVE or go during winter!
