Often times people visiting Chollas Lake for the first time feel that there's only the lake section to this area. Yes, there is the lake which serves as home for fish, ducks, geese, and other wildlife. Within the lake area (.8 miles) are other easy hikes to take your dog around. Beyond the lake, on the west side, one must go down a hill to discover an entire other section with open paths and other hikes. The hikes are relatively easy, some a bit more challenging than others. There are lots of people walking, jogging, running. Lots of people with their dogs. There's the main flat road that goes up a cliff. Yet, there are other hikes off the beaten path worth exploring on both sides of the main road. There's more that one entrance to the park, so keep that in mind. There's the entrance that takes you directly to the lake. Another entrance takes you the playground and yes, it has access to the lake. Another entrance takes you down a hill directly to the multi-purpose field (I've seen soccer and baseball being played there). The most congested parking lot is the one that leads to the lake, especially during peak times. Something to consider, bathroom and drinking fountains are located on the lake side of the park. There a bathroom by the multi-purpose field. The park closes when the park is not safe due to weather conditions (rain, mudslides, lightning, etc.). I often take my fur babies on an hour hike there. They love it. This is a hidden gem and it's worth exploring with your furbaby.
- I'll Hike ThatMore than a year agoDecent walk
Not much of a hiking trail, but rather a walking trail that circles the lake. lots of birds there; duck, geese, and such. Lots of people and other dogs too. Runners, Bikers, exercise groups. But for a good 30 minute walk with your mutt, it's nice.
