    Meramec State Park- Canine Cabins

We just returned from staying at Meramec State Park Canine Cabins #3. The rustic style cabin we found to have everything needed for the humans but no actual amenities for canines. The biggest down side for us was the bed was a full size bed and very uncomfortable. Having a cook top stove, fridge, microwave and air conditioning were a huge bonus. There were no O-rings to clip pups at the picnic tables or porch. No dog bowls, beds or gates were available in the cabin. The cabin we were in did not have many trees and setting up a run for the pups was not feasible. However the cabins #2 and #4 seem to have options. We wished we had brought a doggie gate for the porch so we could have let them off leash on the porch to sit with us, but was not a big problem. We found plenty of trails to hike with the pups. We walked up under the bridge and let the pups swim as well. We found several dog waste bag stations near the cabins as well.

Couple of things to note, we did find it odd that on the fridge posted was a list of items they would charge extra for cleaning up, list excessive dog hair was one. They already charge extra per dog and we am not certain what they consider excessive. Also, not sure about security of the park. We did see a few strange occurrences with people driving up, parking then wondering in the wood behind the cabins (no trails list back there) and leaving a few minutes later. We did not see once in two days any kind of ranger or security making rounds.
