me and my boy love this trail and have been going here for years ! Since the first time I went in 2015/2016 they have fixed up a lot of trails and added bridges / walk ways ! I love it here !

The lake is absolutely terrible.. smells awful and not maintained in any sort of way. dogs are not allowed in the lake even if you wanted to let them in.. i wouldn't let mine anywhere near the disgusting infested water. trails are nice, a bit overgrown but that is normal in this area around this time of year. can't complain about the hiking trails but I would never bring my dog here again

This is a pleasant, 1.5 hour hike for you and your dog. Good paths with a small lake; our Lab was very excited about his swim! It's Mountain Lake, not Palmer Lake, and the address info on top is accurate. There is a leash law for all of NJ, but If your dog is good with people and other dogs, there shouldn't be problem being off leash at this location. Highly recommend the visit.

This is a really nice place to take your dog. Be aware though that you likely won't get the "being alone in the woods" feeling due to the trail's popularity. This is not really a bad thing though because part of the fun is that your dog will likely meet many canine friends along the way. Whenever I go there have been a few dogs off leash so it likely is not a good walk for you if you are not 100% sure your dog is good with other dogs.

Mountain Lakes nature preserve (wherein you will find Palmer Lake Trail) is a beautiful environment for walking, whether or not you bring a dog with you. I've moved away from Princeton, but get back to this place whenever I can - I always find something new. I especially suggest longer walks towards the back of the park (towards Stuart road). There are large stones (the result of glacial activity) and beautiful trees. Sure, some of the trails are a bit more "wild" than in some other parks, but if you're looking for carefully manicured lawns, you aren't interested in nature walks anyway.

Poorly marked and maintained trails. Overgrown and nothing to see. A wasted ride
- MattMore than a year agoMountain Lake
This is a fun trail, lots of people walking with their dogs, nice and shady for the summer, with a pretty lake to rest by when you're done. The important thing is that this place is really called Mountain Lake, not Palmer Lake. The location is correct (Great and Mountain) but the name is not.
