Reviews
Visitors generally enjoyed the dog-friendly areas of Cocoa Beach, though some found the restricted hours and locations limiting. They note the beach is clean and spacious, but some wish there were more off-leash areas and showering facilities nearby.

we came around 10 a.m. and were barely on the sand for 5 minutes before being asked to leave. we drove 3 hours. wouldn’t recommend. we were all very disappointed after such a long drive.

Short review. Background-moved to Brevard County from pet friendly area-palmCoast/Flagler. Never saw a problem in 3 years on beaches there w/dogs. I understand this is limited experience, however the %age of time spent on beach was significant. Also, I do understand dogs can cause problems w/irresponsible owners, as do other human family members. Positives. It’s the awesome Atlantic Beach!!! This is great for ppl who do not live here (short-term) experience. There is parking. Negatives paid parking-plenty of public beach access without paid parking along beach areas (not dog friendly) No showering choices Again plenty elsewhere (not dog friendly)limited hours for dogs solution-move to dog friendly beach area.
- KimmiFeb 12, 2023Only allowed for a few hours
apparently things changed, last year we had no issues . This time, we saw lots of dogs playing on the beach so we proceeded. we walked about a mile and a half when approached by beach patrol that told us “ I know it’s confusing, but you can only have your dog on the beach from 6am-10 am and 4pm -10 pm” . we love Cocoa Beach but we take our dogs EVERYWHERE WE GO. No I’m not going to kennel them. I brought them to spend time with them. We will be looking elsewhere for a REAL DOG FRIENDLY beach for our next trip.
- RachelJan 28, 2023Worst dog beach
I would never recommend or go back to this beach. The beach was pretty empty when we arrived with my two dogs when out of nowhere I had a beach patrol/officer come speeding up to me in a golf cart on the sand to tell me I had thirty minutes until I had to leave. It was unnecessary and he had a threatening attitude- we left immediately as we felt so unwelcome.

Dogs allowed in mornings until 10 am. Then again after 4 pm...NOT during mid day or $100 per dog fine... we went South to Canova Beach. All free parking, 1/2 to 3/4 miles of shore, very fun, very friendly at Canova
- SharonMar 11, 2022Awesome beach!!
Cocoa Beach is clean and relatively flat, great for walking your fluff. I wanted to add....a new pet grooming place has opened up across from Coconuts. While there is a fee (I think $10) there is a bathing station for them there. Just fyi...in case you don't want a dirty sandy dog going home with you. It's walking distance to avoid the car altogether.
- ElizabethFeb 12, 2022Awesome location!
we used the helpful tips from other reviewers to find the right entrance (at 4th st s) and there was even enough space for us to park our small rv. we met some locals and as it wasn’t busy enjoyed some off leash time too. sounds like they’re strict about the timing, so read other comments to make sure it’s the right time of day (I forget what it is)

Cocoa Beach can be confusing to find. However once you do it is a great place to take our furry friends to the beach. Just know that the dog beach starts at SOUTH 4th street and continues until SOUTH 16th street. There is also a North 4th street that has a beach entrance but that portion of the beach is not dog friendly. Also know that the dog beach that starts on SOUTH 4th street has certain hours for our furry friends. During the winter months (Fall Back time) the hours are from 6am to 10am and 4pm to 7pm. During daylight savings it is 6am-10am and 5pm-9pm. It is a leashed beach that can fine $50 for breaking the leash rules or time rules. However it is a beautiful and peaceful stretch of beach with great sand and surf!

awesome spot came on a Thursday very few people
- LarryAug 31, 2021Wonderful Time
My dog and I enjoyed our time at this beach. Got their at 5pm and it was not hot or crowded. My dog's first time at the ocean -- she loved it. People were friendly and respectful with their dogs. Parking is $3 per hour. The only downer is no showers for people or dogs. Drove down to 16th for the shower -- but it was not sufficient for showering a dog. Would appreciate any recommendations for showering a dog at Cocoa Beach.
- MarkMar 23, 2021Nice Beach
we were in the area on vacation and wanted to take our dogs to the beach. We found this listing and thought we would give it a try. After some frustration and google searching and stopping to talk to a few people walking their dogs we found it. People please read the paragraph with information about the beach. DO NOT USE THE ADDRESS AT THE TOP FOR FINDING THIS BEACH. Follow A-1 to Fourth Street South and turn left towards the ocean. There is a small parking lot there. This lot is the very north access to the dog friendly portion of the beach. We walked our dogs south along the beach for close to half a mile and didn’t reach the south edge of the dog portion of the beach.
They enjoyed it a lot and so did we!!! - JamiOct 30, 2020Went To Shepard’s Park NO Dog Sign
Google map from app and had sign saying no dogs or you get fine.
- JoanneOct 7, 2020Nice 1st Dog Beach Experience
This is my first dog beach experience, and it went very smoothly despite accidentally walking outside of the restricted time. We just did a cursory Google search, and it didn't mention a time restriction. There were no beach patrols the whole weekday I was there and barely any other visitors or dogs around. A local told me the beach patrol will give you a warning, and that they've never been fined when entering outside of the designated times.
Other than being a little worried about mistakenly breaking the rules, the beach was great. It was very clean, and not crowded at all. We saw like maybe 5 other dogs there the whole day. I just wish there was a place to shower off the sand for people and dogs afterward, and maybe if there was an off-leash beach area somewhere nearby. The Lori Wilson dog park is a little bit of a drive away, but has no beach access.
- FaithNov 28, 2019Perfect location!
Visiting from PA - we went early to abide by the timelines on Thanksgiving Day! The beach was quiet, which I’m assuming due to the holiday, but people walked by here and there - very friendly! The beach was immaculate and the only sign of dogs was the paw prints our pup left! He absolutely loved it. Beach entrance and rules clearly listed. They have dog bags and a spot to take a bag, leave a bag. You do have to pay to park so bring coins or a card to charge.
- NicholasOct 25, 2019We Love The Beach!
Everyone is quite friendly at the beach, love letting our dog run around through the waves! Wouldn’t want to go until after 5 pm anyway as it makes perfect cooler (for Florida anyway) weather.
- LindseyOct 22, 2019Perfect Place To bring The Dogs
Living by the beach and being a dog lover it’s a shame that I can’t bring my dogs along to the beach more often. But, I also understand how quickly pets can make problems if not watched after properly by their owners. That being said, I haven’t come across any unattended pet messes yet.
I’ve seen a lot of reviews complaining about the time limits, but I’m happy to just be able to go to the beach with my dogs. I’ve only been in the morning, but I’ve gone during the week and on the weekends. I’ve always gotten a parking spot, and the beach is never crowded. Sure it would be great to go anytime of day, but it would be much worse if we couldn’t take the dogs at all.
Signs on the beach and at the boardwalks signify the dog friendly areas. I enter 4th Street South, Cocoa Beach into my GPS. You’ll find a boardwalk with meter parking by the beach entrance. Bring money for parking, bring stuff to wash/clean feet and paws, and bring bags for any dog messes. There are no washing stations or restrooms, but there are trash bags.
- IzyAug 22, 2019Love Love Love!
We love cocoa beach! It’s an awesome place to bring your dogs! You can go on 4th street to access and once on the beach head to the right. There’s dog potty bags right by the boardwalk. I believe the times are in the morning till about 10am and at night from 5 pm and on. My only complaint is they can’t be there all day.
- BeachJul 3, 2019Limited area and hours in Cocoa Beach
Dogs are welcome on Cocoa Beach ONLY between on the beach south of 4th Street South and the north side of Murshke Park. For visitors that may not know where this is, it is 4 blocks south of Coconuts and then south to Murshke Park. And the only times dogs are permitted on this area of beach are from 6am to 10am and 5pm to 7pm during standard time, 9pm during daylight savings time. Waste disposal points are available at the pet-friendly entrance and owners are reminded to clean up after their pooch when visiting. Although Fido must be on a leash under six feet for the duration of their visit, the dog park at Lori Wilson Park is a leash-free area; more information can be found on the Lori Wilson Dog Park page on our site. Dogs are not allowed on the beach at Lori Wilson, only in the designated Dog Park. If you bring your dog to the beach other than the designated area and times, you are subject to a $50 fine. Beaches are patrolled by Beach Rangers.
