My medium - small dog Zara and I had a great 1.5 hr hike in the summer sun. We recommend the Cal-Neva Loop Trail that goes around the park and ends where you started. The trail takes u up as you curve around for some spectacular views of Lake Tahoe. Bring your hiking boots and lots of water, solid harness, and leash for u and ur pup. There are many shady spots and places to rest as u travel
through rock and forest terrains.I also recommend driving to the small parking lot in the summer heat even though the trail is walking distance from many great hotels near Heavenly Village.
- JessicaApr 25, 2019Take The Barn Trail Loop Instead Of Paved Road
This is a busy area right under the gondolas for Heavenly Ski Resort but if you take the trails to the right, near the bathrooms, instead of the paved road that veers to the left there are less people/dogs and it’s more like a real hike. Lila loved it and there were lots of patches of snow all around so you might want to have crampons for your shoes/boots if you’re nervous walking in snow/ice.
