Entrance is right by parking lot. One dog yard for both small & Lg dogs. Many trees for shade. Benches, waste bags, doggy & pet parent drinking fountain. No bathrooms. Lots of bigger dogs to play while we were there. Most of the pet parents kept an eye but few I noticed where on their phone. High turn over of coming & going. Well kept for the amount of people & dogs. I gave 4 bones out of 5 because its one play yard & no bathroom. I posted couple pic below

Lots of very well behaved dogs for my pup to play with. We liked the seating options with lots of shade. We’ll be returning!

Open and funny furry friends.

It's mostly shaded. Mostly dirt. Easy parking. Keeps the K9 happy!

Not very well kept, kinda muddy, but my pups had a great time and the few dogs and people that were there were friendly. glad there weren’t any skateboarders at the time, might’ve made my dogs anxious.
- RobertMore than a year agoAggressive Dogs, Inattentive owners.
Took the dog there and and there where two dogs and one owner inside and one outside. The two people were talking when I came up. The two dogs so aggressive with pack activity I couldn't get in the gate. With my dog. The owner never even bother to assist. My wife took the dog one day during the week while I worked. She didn't care for it either. So felt the "locals" run the park and could care less if anyone new wants to use it. Go to JI County park. Friendly dogs and owners. Sad to say cause I'm a West Ashley native.

Who puts a dog park next to a skatepark? My dog was so scared of the sounds of skateboards going on the ramps. Was only there for 5 minutes. Bad placement for a dog park.. Also, it looked like it doesn't get maintained a lot. Size was good though and there is shade
- JMore than a year agoit's larger than Bees Landing
We started at Bees Landing and it was ok. Then we went to Ackerman and it was much larger. Went during the week, before the kids got out of school so there wasn't anyone at the skate park next to it. It was quiet and there were 3 other dogs there. The owners told me all about their bad experiences with misbehaved dogs and ignorant owners, but i didn't see any today. It was nice and shady and there were bowls and a pitcher velcroed to the stand so you can put water in a bowl. My dog is afraid of the water fountains so this was nice. The location is off of Sycamore Avenue and there is a green sign that says Ackerman with an arrow. Just look for that little sign. If you google map this address, it takes you to a neighborhood, but it's actually next to that neighborhood across from a memorial site. We will be making this park part of our rotation for sure.

We live in Concord West of the Ashley RIGHT next to this park and it's so convenient to walk right over there! There are always the nicest people there too!!

Typically, I have had a good experience going to this dog park. I have seen other dogs bully, but their owners usually will come and break it up. Today, there were only 3 other dogs in the park. One guy was there with a huge horse of a dog and some girl was there with a reddish mutt looking dog (I noticed they were chatting it up with each-other and I have seen the large, horse dog before). I could barely get through the gate because of these dogs. When I did, the girls dog continued to bite and scare my sweet little girl dog. It got so bad, with that dog and my dog getting pushed to the ground (also by the huge black dog), that I was screaming for them to leave my dog alone. NOBODY got off of their fat asses and did ANYTHING. My dog was trying to hide between my legs and that reddish dog kept trying to dominate her. I finally got both of the dogs away from my dog and screamed "thanks for taking care of your dogs". The girl that just sat there, and did NOTHING with her mean, vicious dog, simply opened up her mouth and said "Your welcome". Clearly she is a miserable soul, but give me a break. Train your dog if you are going to bring it out in public. Even better, train yourself to be a better human being.
- DarylMore than a year agoAwesome Park!!
This park has dog of all sizes!! I felt my puppy was out numbered on James Island. At Ackerman, there are puppies and adult dogs and anything in between! All the dog owners, are nice and clean up after their dogs. If you get bored, you can even watch the skate boarders right next door! I love going!!
- SarahMore than a year agoAckerman has shade!
This dog park is big without being so big you lose your dog and it's mostly shaded- a huge bonus for summer months!
