This is a fantastic, highly used park. It is often quite crowded, so pups who are not well socialized with other off-leash dogs may find it intimidating. There is a separate area for small dogs. The fenced area is huge with lots and lots of area to run around. the entire area is covered in soft wood chips, but after a rain it can get a bit muddy. Bring your own water as the communal bowl can get a bit narley. If your pup likes to run, you can expect to go home tuckered out, and maybe a bit muddy!

Though the setting is nice and it's a reasonable size for inactive dogs, this park is mean. The dogs here have been stuck at home all day, probably in crates and when their owners bring them the dogs are hyper. Owners are often on their phones and unaware of what their dogs are doing. The common water bowl gave my old Golden awful herpes-like blisters (or warts) that the vert had to finally remove. There is no grass, just filthy mulch. A nice attempt was made to provide rocks to climb on, but it doesn't make up for the fact that the area is fenced in with a black chainlink fence that dogs rarely approach. Owners often just gather under the covered porch sitting bored while their dogs hangout under the picnic table there.
Maryland is ranked 40th in the country for dog friendliness. This park is one of Montgomery County's best efforts for dog owners. That's very sad.

Cabin John is the very best dog park for dogs. I ought to know...I am a dog, a big dog! My owners bring me here a lot. I love to run around under the trees and the mulch is easy on my feet. (other parks have gravel...ouch!) The park gets cleaned once a week and water and poop bags are available which is very nice, too. Sometimes I like to walk around the park on the trails too.

Just off of the Beltway and 270 and secluded from the din of the District, this wooded dog park is just what dogs need to get some exercise. There's almost always other dogs there. There's water. A place for small dogs. Best of all, it's treed and close to other multi-use parts of Cabin John Park. Just wish it were closer to where I live.
