there is an area for dogs 20lbs and under and a separate for 20lbs and over. Huge areas to play with some benches and picnic tables in the shade. lots of friendly dogs and people!

To Catherine in Charlotte - how long ago did this happen? I ask because there's a large dog there (one of the regulars) that has attacked my 95 pound, 11 month old puppy on 3 different occaisions. The owner doesn't seem to care. I get it that dogs have their own pecking order and usually figure things out on their own but this was an attack. Sadly, I will not return because this guy is there every day with his unruly pack of hounds.

For Catherine in Charlotte
Legally, when a dog has bitten a human or another dog it has to be reported to the authorities. After a certain number of strikes the dog is considered aggressive and must be removed from the home. It may be put in a home that is better suited to take care of it or, more likely, it will be put down depending on the severity of its attacks. This may seem cruel but it is in place for the public's safety as well as the dog's. Also, when you think about it, it's not fair that the dog is in a home that is so irresponsible. Also, it's always safe to carry a bottle of citronella. They sell this at Petsmart, when used properly (you spray it at their nose) it discourages dogs, kinda like how pepper spray discourages humans, but it is NOT pepper spray and is 100% humane.

I went to this park plenty of times and every time I go my dog has a blast, but I wish they had a area for small dogs. I get nervous because my dog likes to play alot.... But overall great park

I just recently found this park and have gone a couple of times. Some things that are really positve is that the park is not too large and I can keep track of my little girl. Also I see a lot of the same faces and most people are engaging well with both dogs and people. Unfortunately on my last trip my dog was approached and attacked by a large dog. While I was checking her out the dog approached me and jumped up. The owner obviously not a responsbile one, did not even bother to acknowledge that something occurred much less apologize. This really reflects more on a dog owner than the actual park. I was really put off by this and Sadie indicated she was scared by going to stand by the exit door. I would like feedback on how to approach owners who refuse to do the right thing by taking responsibility for their dog. I am unsure if I will attend here again. I may take Sadie to parks with smaller dog areas, although she is technically larger than the 20lb weight limit. Otherwise overall nice people with good dogs.

Nice park, people and dogs are generally well behaved. Very relaxing way to spend an hour or two.
- DawnMore than a year agoThe park is FENCED
This park may not have been fenced when this blog was created but it has been for the last few years. It is about 2 acres of fenced area for the dogs to run and play. We even scrub our buckets as a preventative measure so the dogs are protected from diseases.

This is a great dog park to come to. We have regulars that attend everyday in the morning and evening. The morning group has actually become really good friends because of their dogs and we created a lunch group together. We are also on facebook under McAlpine Dog Park, please look us up and come say hey!!
