NOT SAFE. This park is beautiful and pups love it. HOWEVER! Many irresponsible dog owners with dogs off the leash. So many! It's ridiculous because there's an actual fenced dog park within Goodale Park. This is a huge issue and very scary for owners like myself that have a pitbull mix and worry that my leashed dog is going to bite some random, unwelcomed, swiftly approaching dog. Can lead to my own dog being put down because of it! Today, I was only there for about 30min and had some friends hang with my dog and I next to some trees by the tennis court. Within that 30 mins FOUR unleashed dogs running up to mine. One was a weiner dog that I quickly picked up (owners apologized and it was an accident their other dog leashed). The second a huge German shepherd. His owner casually strolling 30 feet behind. Came straight to my dog. I had to grab his leash and pull his dog away!!!! HE DIDN'T EVEN RUN TO HELP! I was struggling and clearly uncomfortable with the situation. The guy just slowly walks up. Takes the leash. Throws a piece of trash away at a neighboring bin... And then immediately drops his leash on the ground to walk again where I saw a second occurance of the same thing with another person. Also saw him leaving with same behavior! Even on my way out there was 3 unleashed with one group of people. A fellow pitbull owner even flipped me off as I'm yelling at the fourth person to come get their dog away from mine and leash it.
It was so ridiculous and so hectic-I am exhausted over the strain and stress.

Contrary to the other reviews on this page, Goodale Park is not a dog park nor does it have a dog park. Goodale is literally just a park located near downtown. There are great walking paths for exercising your dog but there is not a dedicated dog park. I believe most of these reviews are for Godown Dog Park (they seem to describe it) which is north of Goodale. If you're looking for an actual dog park, don't come to Goodale since it's just a normal park for people too.

This is a very large dog park and usually has well-socialized dogs with attentive owners. It's a great place for an active dog to run around and burn energy. It can get extremely muddy so don't wear nice shoes and make sure to take a towel for the pup's ride home. It's also not well lit after dark. Otherwise, best dog park in central Cbus!

I travel with my dog to visit family in Ohio and this is a great, well maintained park. It has a paved sidewalk and is huge. Always lots of friendly dogs and people for my dog to play with. Love it

So I found out that the dog park is actually across the street from the main part of the park. Also, the dog park has been closed and it was still closed as of 6/4/15. A dog owner i met in the park told me that it's supposed to be open this week, so be aware. The main park side however was beautiful and is great for a stroll with the pooch.

Two gated areas are made available for either small or large dogs. Having a medium sized dog, I've been able to comfortably / safely visit either side. Each of the areas can be accessed via two "man-trap" entrances. There's a fountain and some hoses located at the west side of the park outside the fenced-in area. Also, throughout the park, there are waste bags available if you happen to forget to bring your own.
Be warned, the large dog area can get muddy at times depending on the precipitation.
Dog owners who frequent this park tend to be very responsible and friendly. There is no real lighting so it could get dark quick, especially during the winter months.
