I don’t know why this park isn’t rated higher. It’s a great location, very easy to get to, not on a busy street, and has park benches, water with bowls, and tons of shade. Parking is close to the park and it’s not crowded. This is one of the better parks in CHS.

Entrance is right off parking lot. One dog play yard for both small & Lg. Well stocked waste bags, water pump w/bowls, garbage barrels, many benches w/trees for limited shade. No nearby bathroom. The other pet parents were very friendly. ...I noticed lots of tennis balls; another review had said a local collects them to bring for the pups! Thank You Local person! I posted a few pic below

We were visiting with both dogs

We were there in August after a rainy few days. Only one other dog there, an Italian greyhound, and it was fine. Owners were very nice and said they'd been to several other parks and gave their opinions. They too have had problems in general at different parks mostly due to owners not watching their dogs.

Our two dogs had a blast running around this fenced in park with water supply, scoop bags, and places for humans to sit if they choose. Many different types of dogs for a midweek morning visit.

This park has good space for running. Offers a water source for dogs, has a few benches, and a couple trees. It definitely has a rougher look to the park but it gets the job done when passing through.

First, to address former reviews, idk what the issue is with pit bulls being at a dog park. We own 2 pits that travel with us everywhere & are never the trouble makers at the parks we visit. We always - always - experience & witness aggressive and possessive behavior from other breeds of dogs but we don't single them out by their breed.
Second, to provide our review of the park, we were completely happy with our visit. The owners were friendly, all dogs were well - behaved or quickly corrected, and the space was big enough for the dogs to get a great run in but still small enough to easily see all points of the park (except for two sides that had trees growing over the fence. . They made it a little tricky to spot the particular "fido" that was romping through the leaves.)
if you have a small dog, they are welcome but know that there isn't a separate "small dog" part to the park. . But as we were leaving a Pomeranian had just arrived & had no problem hanging out with the big dogs.
A local told me that a guy who lives behind a tennis court collects tennis balls in a bucket and donates them to the park after he collects enough to fill the bucket. It was really nice seeing plenty of toys around for all dogs to play with.
The ONLY reason we didn't give this park "5 Bones" is bc there was only one source of water for the dogs that got real busy as soon as a human refilled the water bowl. Otherwise, there was a bag station on each side of the park and plenty of trash cans/barrels to clean up after your pet.
Thanks, Charleston for maintaining this park for our pups! They played so hard they both got a bath as soon as we got back to the hotel! - RMore than a year agoOverall good
Awesome people, safe neighborhood. Park is in need of some upkeep.
- RMore than a year agoFriendly park in need of maintenance
The dogs and owners are friendly and any pack disputed is interrupted and handled immediately.
Only issue with the park is the city needs to do some upkeep. Giant holes under some benches and a tree and the dirt is taking over the grass.
A few pit bulls are present, but they by no means run the show and the neighbor certainly isn't ghetto. - MattMore than a year agoNice but small park
Charleston appears to be a very dog friendly town.
We didn't see any signs of ghetto nor aggressive dogs on our recent visit there. Our waitress at Hominy Grill recommended this park over Cannon Park since it's fenced in. There is plenty of parking, and nice shade for dogs and owners. The grass is a bit worn in spots, but otherwise this is a nice spot to let the pups run. - NicoMore than a year agoGHETTO!
i will never return here! i felt unsafe just walking around this area in broad daylight. the park is full of pit bulls who are not well behaved and owners who don't care if they are trying to attack you or your dog. stay away.
