    Wonderful Location

We take our dog here 4 times per year so the daily pass is perfect for a day long field trip. Tons of trails and wooded area is her favorite.
Never a bad encounter with other dogs compared to a lot of other locations.

Best dog park I have ever been to!

This dog park is beyond special. Acres of natural habitat with beautiful and multiple mowed grassy paths for long walks.

    Friendly Dogs And Friendly People

We brought our puppy Jameson for his first dog park experience. Getting a daily pass for $20 and it was worth every penny. Tables for shade, tons of acres for doggos to explore or to relax in the shade! We will be back for more visits!

    Doggie Paradise

Other dog parks talk of 3-10 acres. This has 80 acres plus making it interesting and spacious for both canine and companion. An annual permit, for Lake County residents, is a small price to pay for the hours of pure bliss your dog will experience. Almost all dogs are off-leash. I have never experienced any unwanted encounters with our rather exuberant young puppy (pictures attached).

    Come Every Day!

We love Lakewood Dog Park! Our energetic doodle needs the wide open space and the community of friendly dogs and owners. Although we wish there were drinking fountains and more picnic tables on the back section, this dog park really is a country club for our fellow travelers, We are there every day, weather and schedule permitting.

It's worth noting that we travel considerably and have never found anything to measure up to Lake County Forest Preserve Dog Parks. I think we are pretty lucky!

    great park

Great park I love to take my Ruby to, she is about a 5lb dog and it is such a spacious park I feel comfortable taking her off leash to play as we don't have to run into other dogs if we take the back paths!

    Paradise for dogs and owners

This 68-acre completely fenced park offers something for every dog and owner. The facilities include parking, bathrooms, pump for drinking water, a gazebo and a dozen or so tables with benches.

On one side of the parking lot is a large grass field for dog play. There are a bunch of tables for owners to sit and watch. Bathrooms are also located here.

The other side of the parking lot is a 15-20 acre forest. It has only one or 2 paths, but there are many trails crisscrossing the fairly dense trees. After rain this area will be quite muddy.

About half the park consists of 3ft tall grass with mowed paths.

Lakewood is a great park for long walks. It is easy to walk around for 1 hour and never retrace your steps. In my opinion this is the best dog park I have ever seen and certainly in the North Chicago area. However make sure that your dog/puppy comes when you call him/her. Even though the entire park is well fenced: 68 acres is a long way to chase a puppy!
