We took our two 70+ pound hunting dogs here and all had a blast. Dogs are allowed everywhere on site, including the gift shop, on-site panning, mine tour, and claim panning. We did everything and it was a great day. After some hard days hiking Custer and the Black Hills, the pups were happy to relax at the claim mining site (a short walk up a hill but enough to feel very remote). There are sluices for the on-site panning farther away from other ones if you want to keep your dogs away from the busy action, though all the employees and even guests we interacted with were lovely with them. The boys also enjoyed the mine tour a surprising amount - lots of interesting smells and they were a little bummed to leave the 52° temperature behind and get back to summer!
