Rovers Run requires vet record and a registration fee (less than $50 for the year even if you’re not a local resident), but I can all be filed online and I appreciate that it helps keep my dog safe. The large park has an enormous amount of grassy space space, a chipped walking path, good shade, nice benches and water that is turned on May-Oct. Local members are great about bringing kiddy pools in the summer, stocking poop bag storage with old grocery bags, and leaving ball flingers for communal use.

The registration process the first time we visited Rover's Run seemed a bit much when we first signed up but now I totally appreciate it. It took all of 5 minutes for me to call my vet to send over current shot records and fecal exam. Many dog owners don't even bother to get shots for their animals and that's dangerous. This is to protect our dogs from many common illnesses and unregistered dogs out of the park. The city has some fantastic dog friendly areas as well but this feels safer, most people actually pay attention to their dogs and interact with them, not just sit on their phone.
The park is well maintained and monitored on a regular basis for membership tags. Safety of pets and humans is expected at Rover's Run. For $35? a year, totally worth it. My dogs go home pooped out! Love it :-)

We live in the city and go to dog parks all the time. But I have family near Homewood and would like to take our dog there when we visit. Well, in addition to the regular county rabies tag, the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District requires that you become a "member." This entails filling out a very detailed form and having your vet sign it!! Sorry, but this is ridiculous. Even the city of Chicago doesn't require a vet's signature in addition to your regular dog license. It's too much trouble and not worth the bother, in my opinion.
