Mount Rushmore has been remodeled. Pets cannot go beyond the entrance to the memorial. Instead, you and your pet must follow yellow dog prints down a short path to a very poor ‘ after the side / through the trees’ view of the sculpture. In addition to this, the parking is confusing and the parking payment system doesn’t work well. The sculpture is beautiful, the government control of the site is poor at best. We would suggest leaving your dog at home or skipping this now ‘over commercialized’ site altogether.

We enjoyed the dog friendly walk, the views and just being there! It’s worth the trip.
- NicoleAug 28, 2023Great short walking path w/excellent view of Sculpture
While dogs aren't allowed past the main entrance pillars, there is a short dog friendly walk with an awesome, unpopulated view of the sculpture. Take the dog out of the car, walk to the front entrance and follow the yellow paw prints! It's really awesome they have this path! The parking garage has a few levels, as well, so there is shaded spots.
