This park is very large and has a lot of great walking paths, both paved and unpaved. The problem is that there are quite a few untrained off leash dogs. I walk a 15 pound dog almost every day at the park and 90% of the time we have no issue. 10% of the time there are some pretty entitled dog owners who think that 70+ pound dogs, who are more than 20 feet away from the owners, and do not return when called are "under control". You will have people get upset with you if you try and move yourself and your dog away from these encounters. I will say that the majority of the bad encounters do not happen on paved walking areas, so take that with a grain of salt. If you walk off path, expect to run into inconsiderate dog owners. I will say that we have only had one bad encounter in the Rose Park itself.

This review is specifically for the little creek that runs through the Whetstone park. The entire park is not an off-leash dog park, but this little area is off-leash friendly. It's not fenced off, so if you have an escape artist you should probably keep them on-leash. My dog LOVES swimming and she loves the creek here. There are some spots that are deep enough for her to swim in, and there are lots of flat rocks you can skip in the water. The creek winds around and there are lots and lots of trees, it seems like you're in a hidden forest. Only negative is that there is some sewage run-off into the creek, but it's only noticeable after a heavy rain. Other than that, the water hardly ever smells and I've been wading in it with no problems whatsoever. We have met many lovely people with wonderful dogs, and we always have a magnificent time here!

Several large, aggressive dogs frequent this park and are usually off-leash despite the fact that this is NOT an off-leash park.

Whetstone is NOT an off leash park.
