We went to the bay side of the Fire Island Lighthouse yesterday and there was lot's of trash on the sand and in the water. My dog even pulled out a blue surgical glove from the water and the hospital is right across the bay...YUCK! lot's of debris from the tides and possibly storms... Not dog friendly or safe...The ocean side and the walk on the boardwalk is nice...but no dogs allowed from March-Sept... would have gave better review but my dog now has an eye infection...UGH

Ignore all those no dogs allowed signs! Just tell the person at the toll booth that you are going to walk the trail to the lighthouse. My dog LOVES this walk! We also (on the off season) continue and walk over to Fire Island and (on leash) my dog spends some time on the beach. Just bring your own water for yourself and the dogs, there is nothing open on off season.

After driving to field 5 and parking we were meant with a NO DOG sign in every possible direction towards the lighthouse be it beach or boardwalk
The question is why so MANY signs if its legal ?
