Patuxent Branch Trail

The Patuxent Branch Trail is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Previously an unused railroad corridor, this "rail-trail" is now a great place to walk Fido in Columbia! The map below shows a parking area with convenient access to the Patuxent Branch Trail. Rails-to-Trails Conservancy has generously provided map data for this trail to Bring Fido for informational purposes only. For more detailed trail information, please visit TrailLink.com. Great for bikers too!

This is one of the many bike/walk trails that wind through Columbia that all provide peaceful wooded walking without having to watch out for traffic. A nice environment for dogs, intrepid bikers can make a day of it by taking the trail all the way to its end at Savage Mill, where you can shop and eat lunch before peddling back. Though regs say dogs must be on leash, you can usually get away with a little off-leash activity in the less-populated sections.
